Thamanat Prompow stated that the opening ceremony of the 33rd SEA Games was held with great solemnity, on par with any other top-tier event, despite time and budget constraints. The Khaosod newspaper reported the remarks of the Deputy Prime Minister in charge of sports in Thailand.
Thai Deputy Prime Minister Thamanat Prompow shared:
"I was on the verge of tears watching the King and Queen deliver their opening speeches to representatives from 11 countries, including Thailand."
This image reflects unity and mutual respect, showing how fortunate the Thai people are to have a King who cares about their affairs.
I was appointed Deputy Prime Minister in charge of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of Thailand. However, the previous government did not have a budget for hosting the SEA Games.
Therefore, we have to rely on the 2026 budget, which can only be used from October 1, 2025, with a budget of over 100 million baht. So, we must manage the funds carefully under these limited circumstances."
In this speech, Deputy Prime Minister Prompow also acknowledged that the SEA Games organizing committee had received much criticism, ranging from "minor details," and stated that the organizing committee would review and address all issues.
Regarding the Thailand-Cambodia border conflict, Mr. Prompow said that the atmosphere of support in the stadium reflected the ongoing solidarity and respect between the Thai people and their neighbors.
When asked by a reporter how he would rate the SEA Games opening ceremony on a scale of 10, the Thai Deputy Prime Minister replied: "If it were me, I would give it 10 points."
The opening ceremony of the 33rd SEA Games actually received a lot of criticism, with unbelievable mistakes in various aspects.
Thailand made at least two mistakes when displaying images of the countries participating in the SEA Games, including a flawed map of Vietnam and an incorrect national flag for Indonesia.
In addition, singer Violette also experienced microphone problems, revealing that she was lip-syncing (as instructed by the organizers) and singing... off-key.
