On December 10th, U22 Malaysia's head coach Nafuzi Zain spoke to the Malaysian media ahead of their "final" Group B match in the men's football tournament at the 33rd SEA Games against U22 Vietnam.
When asked who the most dangerous Vietnamese player that the Malaysian U22 team needed to watch out for was, coach Nafuzi Zain said it was Nguyen Dinh Bac.
"Dinh Bac is a quality player – someone who can help Vietnam U22 win. Watching Dinh Bac play at both club and national team levels, I see that he performs well. However, besides Dinh Bac, Malaysia U22 also needs to pay attention to other players," coach Nafuzi Zain shared.
Dinh Bac scored a brace to help Vietnam U22 defeat Laos U22 in their opening match of the men's football tournament at the 33rd SEA Games, so it's no surprise that he caught the attention of coach Nafuzi Zain. Prior to this tournament, Dinh Bac also played with the Vietnam U23 team in the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship and the 2026 Asian U23 Championship qualifiers.
The fact that the Vietnam U22 team has largely retained the same squad that won the Southeast Asian U23 Championship when participating in this year's SEA Games 33 makes it easier for opponents to understand their strength. "The Vietnam U22 team is strong in many aspects. And this has been demonstrated since the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship," shared the Malaysia U22 coach.
Although both the U22 Malaysia and U22 Vietnam teams only need a draw to advance to the semi-finals of the men's football tournament at the 33rd SEA Games, the Malaysian press still hopes for a victory for their team.
Berita Harian wrote: "The Malaysian U22 team will employ a secret tactic to face the Vietnamese U22 team in the upcoming decisive match for the top spot in the group. Coach Nafuzi Zain's team will field a different lineup and playing style compared to the victory against the Laotian U22 team."
Regarding the U22 Malaysia team, goalkeeper Zulhilmi Sharani shared: "We will have to be very vigilant. My goal is for the whole team to win against U22 Vietnam."
The match between Vietnam U22 and Malaysia U22 will take place at 4 PM tomorrow (December 11).
