Danish Irfan Tamrin won a silver medal in the 100m race at the ASEAN Junior Athletics Championships (ASG) with a time of 10.61 seconds. This result placed him among the four outstanding athletes who qualified to join the Malaysian athletics team to compete in the 4 x 100m relay at the 33rd SEA Games.
Later, the young track and field athlete wrote a letter stating that he was suffering from a back injury and requested to withdraw from the SEA Games 33. However, Irfan Tamrin's mother, Noor Haslinda Mohd Zin, recently accused the Malaysian Athletics Federation (MA) of forcing her son to withdraw from the SEA Games.
Accordingly, Noor Haslinda took Danish for a health check-up on December 1st, after he was removed from the SEA Games squad.
The test results confirmed that Danish had no injuries and was in top physical condition to compete.
Despite having clear medical test results, MA is alleged to have continued to use the letter as a reason to remove Danish from the athletics team for the 4 x 100m relay.
According to MyMetro , the Malaysian Olympic Committee (MA) excluded Denmark from the 33rd SEA Games in order to reserve a spot for veteran Malaysian athlete Khairul Hafiz Jantan. This is considered a disrespectful act towards the dedication and efforts of the Danish-born athlete .
Noor Haslinda shared her disappointment: "Forcing an athlete to lie for personal gain, I really don't understand why my son was pressured to write a letter saying he was injured, when in reality he was perfectly healthy."
This incident reveals that the practice of rigging athletes' participation in major international tournaments still exists in some countries around the world. Such actions undermine the fairness that is characteristic of sports .
