Opening the evening's competition, swimmer Tran Hung Nguyen finished first in the men's 200m individual medley with a time of 2 minutes 02.11 seconds, winning the gold medal. This was the third gold medal for the Vietnamese delegation on December 10th. Also in this event, athlete Nguyen Quang Thuan (Anh Vien's younger brother) finished third with a time of 2 minutes 04.19 seconds, winning the bronze medal.
In women's swimming, young swimmer Vo Thi My Tien won the silver medal in the 200m butterfly with a time of 2 minutes 12.10 seconds. Vo Thi My Tien is considered an outstanding figure in Vietnamese women's swimming. In the 200m butterfly, she competed against many strong opponents such as the reigning champion Singapore and the host country Thailand.
In the men's 100m freestyle, 17-year-old Tran Van Nguyen Quoc won the bronze medal with a time of 50.02 seconds. This was Nguyen Quoc's first time participating in the SEA Games. Also in this event, finishing in 4th place was Luong Jeremie Loic Nino, another promising young Vietnamese swimmer.
In the women's 50m breaststroke, 16-year-old Nguyen Thuy Hien started in lane 6. She finished in 5th place (31.95 seconds), behind competitors from Singapore, Thailand, and Malaysia. This is not Thuy Hien's strongest event, but she is expected to perform well in the following days of competition.
In the women's 4x100m freestyle relay, the Vietnamese team won another bronze medal, concluding the first day of competition with five medals for the Vietnamese swimming team.
