On the evening of December 10th, at the Hanoi Children's Palace, the Hanoi People's Committee held a ceremony to announce the framework for the Hanoi Creative Design Festival 2026 and launch the Hanoi Creative Space Network.
Speaking at the announcement ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Vu Thu Ha said that on October 30, 2019, Hanoi became the first city in Vietnam to be recognized as a member of UNESCO's Creative Cities Network in the field of design. The city has strived to fulfill its commitments, actively cooperating with members of the network to promote creative activities in many fields.
After six years, Hanoi has been affirming its position as a dynamic and creative capital of Asia. One of Hanoi's commitments, highly appreciated by UNESCO, is the effective implementation of the annual Hanoi Creative Design Festival with various themes, using heritage as inspiration and placing the community at the center.
Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Vu Thu Ha emphasized that, with the desire for creative design activities to be distinctive, effective, and make practical contributions to the urban economy , the city has decided to expand the scale of the Creative Design Festival, increasing the number of partners, experts, and creative communities participating. The city will organize the Creative Design Festival every two years in November and shift from a "design festival" model to an "urban creative ecosystem." The activity framework will be announced at the end of the year to allow organizations and individuals to proactively register for participation. The city will also award prizes and honor outstanding models, individuals, and businesses that have made significant contributions.
The Hanoi Creative Design Festival 2026, themed "Creative Economy," is expected to promote connections between businesses, craft villages, artisans, designers, universities, and experts. Activities will take place from January to November 2026 across the city, divided into five zones: Heritage Zone (Dong Xuan Market - Bac Qua area and Dong Xuan Cultural Industry Center); Old Quarter Zone (Hanoi's Old Quarter with 36 streets); Future Zone (network of parks throughout the city); Ecological Zone (the area between the riverbanks and along the Red River); and Community Zone (across all cultural spaces and institutions throughout the city).
Through this initiative, the city hopes that specific projects, ideas, and actions aimed at exploiting cultural values, tangible and intangible heritage, traditional craft villages, etc., will become creative projects with long-term development potential, where efforts to preserve culture are harmoniously combined with innovative thinking and economic development.
Speaking at the ceremony, Vice President of the Vietnam Association of Architects Hoang Thuc Hao affirmed the role of architects, designers, artists, and artisans in the creative journey of designing cultural spaces, where ideas are nurtured, tested, and developed into concrete solutions for the city and the community.
The Hanoi Creative Design Festival 2026 will kick off with the "Creative Gathering" event, held in early January 2026 at Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc Square and the Hoan Kiem Lake area.
The festival is directed by the Hanoi People's Committee and the Vietnam Association of Architects; organized by the Department of Culture and Sports and Architecture Magazine, with the support of UNESCO, Sovico Group, and many other important partners.
At the ceremony announcing the framework for the Hanoi Creative Design Festival 2026, the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports announced the decision and awarded Certificates of Hanoi Creative Cultural Space to 82 creative cultural spaces that fully met the criteria according to the set of criteria for classifying and evaluating spaces participating in the Hanoi Creative Cultural Space Network.
