Q DETERMINED TO WIN
The landscape of the men's football tournament at the 33rd SEA Games has changed significantly after the Philippines U23 team defeated Indonesia U23, securing first place in Group C and becoming the first team to advance to the semi-finals. This means the Vietnam U23 team only needs to avoid defeat to progress through the group stage. However, coach Kim Sang-sik and his players are not aiming for a draw, but are striving to defeat Malaysia U23 to secure first place in Group B. Coach Kim emphasized: "I constantly remind the players that this is not just a group stage match, but preparation for the semi-finals. Victory is the biggest and most essential goal. In the match against Laos U23, we had quite a few opportunities, but we didn't capitalize on them. But the first few matches are not easy, and the Vietnam U23 team usually improves gradually. I think that the players, through this recent victory, will be more confident to continue playing well and win."

Commentator Ta Bien Cuong also expressed his opinion: "The situation in the group gives the Vietnam U23 team a choice, meaning they have an advantage before entering the final round. The option of a draw or a win would make the game easier, but I think the Vietnam U23 team will be determined to win to build momentum for the semi-finals. A victory is even more essential because this is not just a story at the SEA Games 33, but also a battle at the national team level, which has been very intense recently. Therefore, I believe coach Kim Sang-sik will demand a victory from his players."
Over the past few days, Mr. Kim and the coaching staff have employed various methods to help the team maintain focus. The players themselves have been relaxing by playing video games, working out at the gym, or unwinding by the pool. All players are maintaining maximum concentration, striving to be as well-prepared as possible in terms of technique, physical fitness, and mental readiness for the crucial match against U23 Malaysia.
U.23 Malaysia is not a threat.
After more than a week of preparation, coach Kim Sang-sik has found the starting lineup that can create a dominant game and score against U23 Malaysia. It is expected that the South Korean coach will make at least two changes to the starting lineup from the first match against U23 Laos. It is likely that Van Khang will play as a right winger and Phi Hoang will start at left back. Judging from training sessions, there may be a surprise as Le Viktor will be given a chance to start instead of Thanh Nhan. With the goal of winning, U23 Vietnam will proactively increase the pace of the game against an opponent they have remained undefeated against since 2013.
Coach Kim Sang-sik affirmed: "The Vietnamese team's 0-4 loss to Malaysia has hurt the pride of the U23 Vietnamese players, so they are preparing very well for the next match. After the victory against U23 Laos, we had a week to prepare for the match against U23 Malaysia, and all 23 players are in good physical condition. This match is very important, and the U23 Vietnamese team is in high spirits to achieve the best possible result. U23 Malaysia has physical strength and attacking power, but with our good preparation in terms of fitness and tactics, we are determined to win."
Commentator Ta Bien Cuong emphasized: "The most important thing for the Vietnam U23 team is to be themselves. When that happens, we won't be afraid of any opponent in Southeast Asia, whether it's Thailand or Indonesia… The current Vietnam U23 squad only has 4 players who have previously played in the SEA Games: Van Khang, Quoc Viet, Thai Son, and Thanh Nhan. The remaining 19 players are experiencing this important tournament for the first time, so they need to quickly relieve their tension. In reality, I believe that if the Vietnam U23 team is relaxed mentally, the Malaysia U23 team will certainly have no chance."
