Building a house of knowledge for students in mountainous areas.
In mid-November, despite the landslides still clearly visible on the mountain slopes of Dak Pring, A Vuong, Hung Son, La Ee, and La Dee communes ( Da Nang City) after a series of heavy rains, the sounds of the groundbreaking ceremony for the border school construction project still echoed through the mountains, marking the beginning of a bright future for students in the border region.
This historic event is marked by the simultaneous commencement of construction by the Da Nang City People's Committee of five boarding schools for primary and secondary levels in border communes, following the previous project in Tay Giang. This is a series of key projects, expected to open a new chapter for the development of children of ethnic minorities in the western highlands of the city.
The groundbreaking ceremony took place in the rain but attracted a large number of students, village elders, officials, and local people. They were present to witness the laying of the first bricks, as this event signals that the future education of thousands of children in the highlands will undergo more direct and clear changes than ever before.

The project will construct 141 classrooms, meeting the learning needs of approximately 4,800 students in the border area of Da Nang, becoming one of the largest investment programs ever for education in the city's mountainous regions. All six schools are expected to be completed in 2026, ready for the new school year.
This new boarding school system in the border region has received substantial, systematic, and comprehensive investment. Schools in A Vuong, Tay Giang, and Hung Son have 30 classrooms (serving approximately 1,000 students); schools in Dac Pring, La Deee, and La Ee have initially built 17 classrooms (accommodating 600 students each). All facilities, from classrooms and functional rooms to boarding areas, dormitories, teacher housing, and sports facilities, are being implemented comprehensively to create a holistic learning and nurturing environment.
This investment not only addresses the urgent educational needs of children from ethnic minority communities but also ensures the long-term needs of primary and secondary education throughout the border communes of Da Nang.
Moreover, investing in the construction of boarding and semi-boarding schools in border communes is of particular importance, contributing to the implementation of ethnic policies, raising the intellectual level of the people, developing local human resources, creating better learning conditions for children in border areas, thereby strengthening national defense and security and promoting socio -economic development in the mountainous areas of Da Nang.

Mr. Ho Viet Can, Chairman of the People's Committee of Dak Pring commune, said that the commune has two schools, but the facilities are not yet adequate. When the Party, State, and Government decided to build a new school, it was a great joy for the people and students here. It will create conditions for children to improve their physical stature, health, and intellectual level, while also building a workforce for local officials in the future.
"For areas prone to floods and landslides, the school's operation will provide children with a better learning environment and ensure their safety during floods."
Meanwhile, Mr. Nguyen An – Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Council of Hung Son commune – emphasized that the implementation of the multi-level boarding school project in the locality is a long-awaited achievement of the government and the people. Upon completion, the project will create favorable conditions for children in the highlands to study in a better environment, contributing to raising the intellectual level, developing local human resources, and effectively implementing ethnic policies in this border commune.

Attending the groundbreaking ceremony in Hung Son commune, Clâu Thị Huyền, a student at Tr'Hy Ethnic Boarding Primary and Secondary School, expressed her joy: “Previously, we used to go to school on Monday mornings. If it rained, the roads were difficult to travel, so we often arrived late. Now that we have a new school, we are happy because the road to school is no longer far and difficult.”
Meanwhile, teacher Luu Hoang Thuong from Tr'Hy Ethnic Boarding Primary and Secondary School hopes that the project, when put into operation before the 2026-2027 school year, will reduce student dropout rates, contribute to improving the overall quality of education, and narrow the gap between lowland and highland areas.
"Teachers and students feel secure, and learning is better. The school has all the necessary facilities, from playgrounds and subject-specific classrooms to teaching activities and life skills training for students," said Mr. Luu Hoang Thuong.
A place to sow the seeds of literacy and ignite dreams for students in mountainous regions.
At the Dak Pring school site, Mr. Le Ngoc Quang, Secretary of the Da Nang City Party Committee, emphasized that the new school will be a place to sow knowledge, ignite dreams, and realize aspirations; a symbol of the spirit of national unity; and an expression of the affection and responsibility of the Party, the State, and the people towards the people. He requested that Party committees, government agencies, construction units, and relevant organizations adhere to quality standards, timelines, land clearance, material sources, technical standards, aesthetics, and labor safety.
"We believe that with the spirit of 'saying what we mean and doing what we commit to,' and the decisive involvement of the entire political system, the whole population, the armed forces, especially the border localities, the program to build boarding schools for primary and secondary levels in land border communes will be a great success," the Secretary of the Da Nang City Party Committee emphasized.

Attending the groundbreaking ceremony for the La Dêê Primary and Secondary Boarding School (La Dêê Commune), Mr. Nguyen Dinh Vinh – Standing Deputy Secretary of the Da Nang City Party Committee – emphasized that the boarding school model helps students in border areas have stable learning conditions, reducing the dropout rate due to geographical isolation. He also stressed that education is the key to sustainable development and contributes to ensuring border security.
