The program was implemented in Go Noi and Thuong Duc communes, supporting a total of 627 people, including children, pregnant women or women with young children, people with disabilities, and households severely affected by the disaster. The support included: 5 million VND in cash for 230 households affected by the disaster; 1.5 million VND for 106 pregnant women, breastfeeding women, or women with disabilities/chronic illnesses; household supplies and feminine hygiene kits for 230 households, along with materials on hygiene and child protection.
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Tien (Deputy Director of the Department of Dyke Management and Disaster Prevention and Control - Ministry of Agriculture and Environment ), the recent typhoons No. 12 and 13 caused significant damage and severely affected the lives and production of people in Da Nang city. Implementing emergency assistance right from the start helps people overcome the consequences and quickly stabilize their lives.
"We hope that people will use these support resources in a practical and effective way, prioritizing urgent needs, especially caring for vulnerable groups such as children, women, the elderly, and people with disabilities," said Mr. Nguyen Van Tien.
Sharing her thoughts at the distribution ceremony, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa (Deputy Head of the Propaganda and Social Work Department - Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Da Nang City) said that during the recent natural disaster, almost every house in Go Noi commune was flooded, with some areas submerged for seven to ten days. Much of the furniture and household infrastructure was damaged. Upon receiving information about the support from Plan International Vietnam, we immediately coordinated with the Red Cross and the local government to review, finalize the list, and deliver the aid to the people as soon as possible. Although the amount of support wasn't huge, it arrived very promptly. With five million dong in cash, many households were able to buy back essential items such as refrigerators, washing machines, or production tools damaged by the storm. Everyone was very happy to have some means to start rebuilding their lives.
Among those receiving assistance this time, Ms. Tran Thi Thu Trang (27 years old, Tang Binh village, Go Noi commune), who is six months pregnant, emotionally recounted: “My house was deeply flooded, many essential items, the TV, and the refrigerator were all damaged. I am six months pregnant, so I am very worried. The assistance helps me to buy back necessary items and better prepare for my baby.”
This is the first time Plan International Vietnam has implemented relief activities in Da Nang. Although not yet a project area of the organization, Da Nang city is considered a promising location for long-term cooperation, with the swift, transparent, and responsible coordination from the local government contributing significantly to the effectiveness of this support program. The People's Committee of Da Nang city is responsible for receiving, distributing, and publicly disclosing the list of beneficiaries; the support is disbursed through the Vietnam Post system to ensure convenience and transparency, in accordance with the guidelines of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment.
Alongside long-term development programs, emergency relief is a priority for Plan International Vietnam, especially in the context of increasingly complex natural disasters. Plan's relief activities are implemented using gender-sensitive approaches, ensuring that the diverse needs of women, girls, and vulnerable groups are met. In all its activities, Plan focuses on supporting children, especially girls, to be safer, more protected, and better able to recover after natural disasters.
