The cruise ship connecting the heritage regions of Hue and Da Nang attracts many passengers.

On June 6th, Ms. Thu Minh from Cau Giay district, Hanoi, searched online for train tickets for her family's trip to Da Nang next week, but was surprised to find that many trains were already fully booked for the weekend. Of the 9 trains taking passengers to Da Nang, train SE17 still had over 30 seats and 2 sleeper tickets available. Train SE11 had 3 sleeper berths and nearly 10 seats, while other trains had very few seats left on the Hanoi - Da Nang route.

Similarly, trains to Vinh ( Nghe An ) and Dong Hoi (Quang Binh) have few sleeper tickets left, with only a few dozen seats remaining on each train. Even trains dedicated to Dong Hoi, such as QB1, are sold out. Families who buy sleeper tickets have to split up, with each person in a different carriage.

"I didn't expect train tickets in June to be so difficult to buy; my family might have to postpone our trip to July," said Ms. Minh.

According to the Vietnam Railways Corporation's ticket sales website, trains departing from Hanoi station to southern provinces on weekends in June, such as SE1, SE3, SE5, SE7, and SE11, have limited sleeper berths available, while weekday trains have more seats. Return trains SE2, SE4, SE6, and SE10 have more seats available. Short-distance trains between Hanoi and Thanh Hoa and Hai Phong during the summer still have plenty of seats.

According to a representative of the Vietnam Railway Transport Joint Stock Company, at the beginning of the summer holiday season, the railway transport unit has already sold over 620,000 tickets, equivalent to 26% of the total tickets sold in the summer of 2024. It is expected that this summer, the number of train passengers will increase by 8-10% compared to the same period last year, and ticket prices will increase by approximately 4-7% depending on the route and distance.

The railway industry explained that the high passenger numbers were due to affordable fares for families, a free fare policy for children under 6, and convenience for families with young children. Groups of passengers receive a 3-15% discount on group tickets. The quality of service and equipment on the trains has improved significantly compared to before.

Trains departing from Hanoi station in the evening arrive in Quang Binh, Hue, and Da Nang the following morning and noon, offering convenient travel times for passengers. The journey passes through places with beautiful natural scenery. Therefore, trains to Central Vietnam are often crowded, especially the high-quality SE19/20 Hanoi - Da Nang train, which is always fully booked despite the price of 1.2 - 1.3 million VND per berth.

This summer, the railway industry is launching many tourist trains, such as the Hanoi - Hai Phong route with 4 pairs of Hoa Phuong Do trains (HP1/2, LP5/6, LP2/3, LP7/8) daily, and an additional LP10 train from Hai Phong to Hanoi on weekends. The Da Lat - Trai Mat Station route, in addition to the 3 pairs of trains running daily, will also have 3 additional pairs of trains to serve tourists.

The Gia Lam - Nanning - Beijing West international route has daily trains departing from Gia Lam station (Hanoi) at 21:20 and arriving at Nanning station (China) at 10:06 the following day (Beijing time). In the reverse direction, the train departs from Nanning station at 18:05 (Beijing time) and arrives at Gia Lam station at 5:30 the following day. There are also two additional passenger trains per week on this route to Beijing West station (China).
