On June 6, Ms. Thu Minh, Cau Giay District, Hanoi, went online to find train tickets for her family to travel to Da Nang next week, but was surprised to see that many trains were full for the weekend. Of the 9 trains taking passengers to Da Nang, train SE17 still had more than 30 seats and 2 sleeper tickets. Train SE11 still had 3 sleepers and nearly 10 seats, while the other trains had very few seats left on the Hanoi - Da Nang route.

Similar to the trains to Vinh ( Nghe An ), Dong Hoi (Quang Binh), there are few sleeper tickets left, only a few dozen seats on each train. Even the trains to Dong Hoi such as QB1 are sold out. Families who buy sleeper tickets must split them up, each person sleeping in a different compartment.

"I didn't expect train tickets in June to be so difficult to buy. My family may have to switch to traveling in July," said Ms. Minh.

On the ticket sales page of Vietnam Railways Corporation, trains departing from Hanoi station to the southern provinces on weekends in June such as SE1, SE3, SE5, SE7, SE11 all have few sleeper seats left, while there are many tickets left during the week. Return trains SE2, SE4, SE6, SE10 have more seats left. Trains running short distances between Hanoi and Thanh Hoa, Hai Phong during the summer still have many seats left.

According to a representative of the Railway Transport Joint Stock Company, just entering the summer vacation, the railway transport unit has sold over 620,000 tickets, equal to 26% of the number of tickets sold in the summer of 2024. It is expected that this summer, the number of train passengers will increase by 8 - 10% compared to the same period last year, and ticket prices will increase by about 4 - 7% depending on the route and distance.

The railway industry explained that the high number of passengers is due to the ticket prices being suitable for families, with a free policy for children under 6 years old, which is convenient for families with small children. Groups of passengers receive a 3-15% discount on group tickets. The quality of service and equipment on the train has improved a lot compared to before.

Trains depart in the evening from Hanoi station to Quang Binh, Hue, Da Nang in the morning and noon the next day, so it is convenient for passengers in terms of travel time. The journey passes through places with beautiful natural scenery. Therefore, trains to the Central region are often crowded, especially the high-quality train SE19/20 Hanoi - Da Nang is always full even though the price is 1.2 - 1.3 million VND/bed.

This summer, the railway industry has launched many tourist trains such as Hanoi - Hai Phong with 4 pairs of Hoa Phuong Do trains HP1/2, LP5/6, LP2/3, LP7/8 and additional train LP10 from Hai Phong to Hanoi on weekends. In addition to 3 pairs of trains running daily on the Da Lat - Trai Mat station route, there are also 3 additional pairs of trains to serve tourists.

The Gia Lam - Nanning - Beijing West international transit line has trains running daily from Gia Lam Station (Hanoi) at 9:20 p.m., arriving at Nanning Station (China) at 10:06 a.m. the following day (Beijing time). In the opposite direction, trains depart from Nanning Station at 6:05 p.m. (Beijing time), arriving at Gia Lam Station at 5:30 a.m. the following day. There are two more passenger trains on this line each week to Beijing West Station (China).
