Tet (Lunar New Year) is approaching: Plenty of goods, stable prices.

With the Lunar New Year approaching, the Department of Industry and Trade is implementing various measures to ensure the supply of goods, stabilize prices, and control the market. Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade, Nguyen Minh Triet (pictured), stated:

The province has begun preparing for the Lunar New Year (Tet) in 2026 with a specific plan. The goal is to ensure sufficient supply, stable prices, goods with clear origins and traceability, and food safety so that people can shop with peace of mind.

The Provincial People's Committee has issued a plan on preparing goods to participate in market stabilization and stimulate consumer demand during the end of 2025 and the Lunar New Year of the Horse in 2026. At the same time, it has assigned specific tasks to departments, agencies, and local governments at all levels for implementation.

Following the direction of the Provincial People's Committee, the Department of Industry and Trade proactively coordinated with relevant departments, agencies, and large enterprises in the province to develop plans for stockpiling, regulating, and circulating goods, ensuring sufficient supply and preventing shortages or disruptions during the peak Tet holiday season. In addition, the department focused on organizing activities to connect supply and demand, promote trade, and bring Vietnamese goods to rural areas, border regions, and island communes to help people access goods conveniently and at stable prices right in their residential areas.

- Reporter : How is the market stabilization program for the Lunar New Year holiday being implemented in the province this year?

- Mr. Nguyen Minh Triet: Up to this point, the goods market in the province is stable, with abundant supply, meeting the shopping needs of the people well. For this year's Tet market stabilization program, the Department of Industry and Trade has mobilized more than 15 businesses to participate, with a total registered capital of over 225 billion VND, organizing more than 360 price stabilization points in various localities. The program focuses on essential goods for daily life and Tet needs such as: food, consumer goods and fuel, ensuring that goods have clear origins and comply with food safety regulations.

- Reporter : What measures does the province have in place to control prices, prevent speculation, hoarding, and unreasonable price increases...?

- Mr. Nguyen Minh Triet: To effectively control prices and promptly prevent violations during Tet, the Department of Industry and Trade is implementing many solutions simultaneously, with inter-agency coordination being a key factor. First, the Department coordinates with media agencies to provide timely and transparent information about price-stabilized sales points, market conditions, supply, and prices to create consensus and avoid hoarding among the people; it also coordinates with other departments, agencies, and local authorities to closely monitor daily market developments, promptly detecting unusual fluctuations to handle them at the grassroots level.

In addition, the Department of Industry and Trade directed market management forces to launch a concentrated campaign against smuggling, trade fraud, and counterfeit goods during the Tet holiday, focusing on handling goods of unknown origin and violations of food safety regulations, preventing the emergence of complex hotspots. Over nearly two months of this campaign, the forces inspected 256 cases, processed 151 cases, and collected 26 billion VND for the state budget. Furthermore, the Department organized 988 businesses and individuals to sign commitments and published 10 news articles and reports promoting the fight against smuggling, trade fraud, and counterfeit goods.

- Reporter : What will the province do to bring high-quality Vietnamese goods and local specialties to consumers, especially in rural areas, remote regions, border areas, and islands?

- Mr. Nguyen Minh Triet: In parallel with stabilizing the market, the Department of Industry and Trade pays special attention to bringing high-quality Vietnamese goods to rural areas, remote areas, and island communes.

The Department of Industry and Trade, in coordination with the Provincial Center for Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion and distribution systems such as Co.opmart, organized two shipments of goods to stabilize the market in the Kien Hai Special Economic Zone and three island communes, with a total of over 188 tons of goods, an increase of more than 38 tons compared to 2025, with a total value of approximately 4.8 billion VND. Maintaining the "Vietnamese Goods to Rural Areas" market fairs and shipments of Vietnamese goods helps people access quality goods at reasonable prices.

In the coming period, the Department of Industry and Trade will continue to maintain and expand activities to bring Vietnamese goods to the grassroots level, support businesses in organizing promotional programs to stimulate consumer demand; and strengthen market inspection and supervision to ensure the quality of goods serving the people.

- Reporter : In your opinion, what should we do to work together effectively in ensuring the supply of goods and stabilizing prices during the Tet holiday?

- Mr. Nguyen Minh Triet: On the occasion of the Lunar New Year 2026 (Year of the Horse), I hope that the business community and the people will work together to ensure the supply of goods and stabilize prices. Businesses need to proactively prepare their inventory, strictly adhere to price listing and selling at the correct price, and avoid speculation and hoarding, for the benefit of consumers and the long-term reputation of the businesses themselves. People should shop rationally, choose goods with clear origins, ensure food safety, prioritize high-quality Vietnamese products, OCOP products, and provincial specialties, and promptly report any violations to the authorities.

With the joint efforts of the entire system and the people, we are confident that the An Giang market during the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Horse 2026 will continue to be stable, ensuring that every family can celebrate the New Year joyfully, safely, and economically.

- Reporter : Thank you!
