- In the context of digital transformation, more and more people in Lang Son are preparing for and celebrating Tet (Lunar New Year). When used appropriately, technology will help make celebrating the spring festival more proactive, convenient, and fulfilling.

In recent years, thanks to the development of digital platforms, preparing for Tet has become much easier.
Shopping for Tet (Vietnamese New Year) online
Online shopping for Tet (Lunar New Year) is no longer unfamiliar to many families, especially in central areas where digital payment and home delivery habits are quite well-established. With just a few taps on a smartphone, consumers can "browse" on e-commerce platforms, social media sites like Facebook and Zalo, or online supermarket marketplaces to choose everything from flowers, ornamental plants, decorations to fresh and processed foods, confectionery, alcoholic beverages, and Tet gifts; orders can be delivered right to their door, significantly reducing the need for travel during the busy year-end period.
Ms. Luan Thi Hoai Thu, from Khon Pit Hamlet, Tam Thanh Ward, shared: "In recent years, my family has mostly ordered Tet (Lunar New Year) supplies by phone. From decorative flowers and candies to food, we can carefully select everything through pictures, with clearly listed prices. After placing the order, we just wait for delivery to our door. At the end of the year, work is busy, and going to the market like before would be very tiring. Online shopping helps me manage my time more effectively, avoids crowds, and still allows me to prepare everything my family needs for Tet."
Besides being convenient, online shopping also offers price transparency, limiting price gouging during the days leading up to Tet (Lunar New Year). Clearly listed prices, a wide variety of products, and home delivery help consumers save considerable time and effort, while also making it easier to compare prices and consider their spending wisely.
Along with dry goods, decorations, and fresh produce, complete Tet (Lunar New Year) offering packages are becoming increasingly popular, from ceremonial chickens and New Year's Eve offering meals to ready-made meal services, all meticulously provided. When some of the cooking is "shared" by digital services, preparation time is shortened, allowing family members to rest, spend more time gathering with relatives, tidying the altar, and preparing for rituals that require tranquility rather than hustle and bustle.

Along with consumers, many producers and businesses are also proactively embracing the trend of digital transformation. From early on, owners of local peach, kumquat, pomelo, and mandarin orchards have proactively posted and shared information about their goods on social media, taking photos and videos of each product so customers can choose remotely, and then delivering exactly what was ordered. Therefore, peach trees, kumquat trees, and fruit platters for Tet (Lunar New Year) are not only sold in traditional markets but also go online to find customers, expanding their buyer base, especially migrant workers ordering gifts for their families. This approach not only helps expand the market for agricultural products but also contributes to promoting the image of local products, aligning with the development direction of the digital economy , e-commerce linked to agricultural production, and the OCOP program.
Bridging geographical distances
Ms. Duong Thi Anh Nguyet, from Hoang Hoa Tham block, Luong Van Tri ward, said: "I specialize in selling items such as pork, sausages, hot dogs, shiitake mushrooms, wood ear mushrooms, 'banh khao' (a type of Vietnamese cake), 'banh phong' (a type of Vietnamese puffed rice cake), and Bac Son tangerines. Previously, customers mainly came to buy directly, but now most order through Zalo and Facebook, especially those from far away. I take pictures of each batch of goods, post them on the group, customers see them and place orders, and at the end of the day I gather the orders for delivery. Thanks to this, the number of customers is more stable, not only around the neighborhood but also in many other communes and wards," Ms. Nguyet said.
Tet, the Lunar New Year, is also a time when people from all over return to their hometowns to reunite with their families. While in the past, buying train or bus tickets required going directly to the station, digital technology has made travel more proactive and convenient. Online ticket booking and cashless payment applications are integrated into smartphones, even within banking apps, allowing people to book tickets anytime, anywhere. This not only reduces pressure on bus and train stations but also helps to minimize overcrowding and ensure order and safety during the peak Tet season, especially for long-distance commuters.
For those who live far from home, especially those working in other provinces or abroad, digital technology has helped bridge geographical distances. During New Year's Eve, through video calling and livestreaming applications, people can still see their loved ones, send New Year's greetings, and share the joy of reunion; e-cards and online lucky money envelopes have also become new, quick, and convenient ways to express these feelings, fitting the communication habits of young people.
Mr. Ly Van Khoi, from Kim Quan village, Dinh Lap commune, said: "I have two younger sisters who married and live in the South. Every Tet holiday, they can't come home because of the long distance. But the family bond doesn't diminish because of it. Family members regularly video call to inquire about preparations, celebrating Tet, and enjoying the spring festivities. Despite the geographical distance, the feeling of closeness is maintained through these regular conversations."
Technology offers many conveniences for celebrating Tet (Lunar New Year), from shopping and transportation to connecting with distant relatives. However, the values that make up the "soul of Tet," such as the reunion meal, direct greetings, and moments spent together, remain irreplaceable. When used correctly, technology becomes a tool to help people prepare for Tet more easily, while still preserving the warmth, affection, and togetherness of each spring.
