According to the Bangkok Post, tourism operators in Thailand are urging the government to discuss a long-term visa-free program between Thailand and India, as the South Asian nation is predicted to become the world's third-largest economy by 2027.
The Vice Chairperson of the Tourism Council of Thailand, Ms. Somsong Sachaphimukh, said that the current temporary visa waiver for India has helped boost the tourism market. This positive momentum is expected to continue this year as the Thai Ministry of Tourism and Sports plans to extend the program for another two years after the current one ends on May 10th.
As of February 18th, the Indian market was the fifth largest source of tourists for Thailand, with 258,269 visitors. India is projected to surpass Germany to become the world's third-largest economy by 2027, after Germany recently replaced Japan in third place.
