The durian market in the Mekong Delta on March 27, 2025, continued to show a clear differentiation between high-end and mainstream segments. The stable high prices of Thai VIP, Musang King, and Black Thorn varieties demonstrate strong consumer appeal and export potential, while varieties like Ri6 C and Chuong Bo B serve the lower-priced domestic market.

Today's durian price (March 27, 2025) worldwide.

World durian prices on March 27, 2025, showed significant fluctuations, particularly in the context of difficulties faced by exports from Thailand – the leading durian supplier. According to the Thai Ministry of Commerce, in 2024, Thailand exported 859,183 tons of durian to China, worth nearly US$3.8 billion, a decrease of 13% in volume and 9% in value compared to 2023. The main reasons were inconsistent durian quality, reduced production due to harsh weather, and especially the inspection order for Basic Yellow 2 from China – a compound with potential carcinogenic risks. This resulted in 64 tons of Thai durian being rejected for import, causing Thailand's market share in China to fall to 57%. Meanwhile, durian prices in Vietnam, particularly in the Mekong Delta region, remain high, with Thai VIP durian reaching 150,000 VND/kg and Musang King A durian ranging from 135,000 to 145,000 VND/kg, reflecting stable domestic and export demand.

In contrast to Thailand's declining trend, Vietnamese durian is seizing the opportunity to increase its market share in the international market. In 2024, Vietnam's durian exports to China increased by 38%, reaching US$3 billion, raising its market share from 33% to 41.5%, challenging Thailand's leading position. China's total durian imports last year also increased by 9.4% in volume (15.6 million tons) and 4.1% in value, indicating continued strong demand. However, pressure from China's strict food safety regulations, such as testing for Yellow O, is forcing exporting countries like Thailand and Vietnam to improve quality and production processes. In the Vietnamese domestic market, durian prices vary widely: Ri6 A ranges from 78,000 to 85,000 VND/kg, Black Thorn A from 130,000 to 135,000 VND/kg, while common varieties like Chuong Bo B are only from 50,000 to 55,000 VND/kg, showing a clear differentiation between the high-end and budget segments.
