According to ancient folklore, "Dai Huu gave birth to a King, Diem Duong gave birth to a Saint," referring to Gia Vien district – a sacred land that gave birth to King Dinh Tien Hoang. This March, on the occasion of the 1100th anniversary of the birth of Emperor Dinh Tien Hoang, people in the district and visitors from all over have the opportunity to visit the National Historical Monument of the Temple of King Dinh Tien Hoang to remember and express gratitude for the merits of this national hero who unified the country and established the legitimate dynasty.
Participating in the procession from My Ha communal house (Gia Thuy commune, Nho Quan district) to the Temple of King Dinh Tien Hoang, Mr. Tran Van Tao said: "It is an honor for me to attend the procession and offer incense on the occasion of the 1100th anniversary of the birth of Emperor Dinh Tien Hoang. According to historical records, Gia Thuy is the hometown of Empress Dowager Duong Van Nga and also the maternal hometown associated with the childhood of Dinh Bo Linh . When his father died early, Dinh Bo Linh followed his mother to live near the Son Than temple in the cave, which is the Long Vien temple today, and herded buffalo in the Gia Thuy and Gia Hung areas on the other side of the Boi River . The communal house dedicated to Dinh Tien Hoang and Empress Dowager Duong Van Nga was built during the Early Le Dynasty and is a national historical and cultural relic. The communal house still preserves 14 royal decrees from various feudal dynasties…"
Therefore, on this occasion, returning to Gia Phuong, we, the people of Gia Thuy, have the opportunity to return to the birthplace of the King, clearly feeling the tradition of "Drinking water, remembering the source" of our nation, which the Party Committee, government, and people of Gia Vien district are cherishing and remembering through many meaningful activities organized on this occasion. In the atmosphere of commemorating the 1100th anniversary of the birth of Emperor Dinh Tien Hoang, each of us in Gia Thuy is committed to educating the younger generation to understand and actively contribute to preserving the historical values and traditions of our homeland and nation…
Joining the procession commemorating the 1100th anniversary of the birth of Emperor Dinh Tien Hoang, along with the palanquin procession from My Ha communal house, palanquin teams from other relics dedicated to Emperor Dinh in the province, traditional ceremonial teams, lion and dragon dance troupes, and participating in the "Reed Flag Dance"... all shared a common feeling of pride in the nation's historical and cultural traditions, and gratitude for the immense contributions of Emperor Dinh Tien Hoang to the building and protection of the country.
Hoang Tram Anh, a student in class 4D at Gia Phuong Primary School, shared: "I am honored to participate in the 'Reed Flag Dance' performance. Having studied local history, I understand the meaning of the performance is to reenact the mock battle game, using reeds as flags, played by Dinh Bo Linh in his youth… This is a practical and meaningful way to learn about local history, allowing me to better understand and appreciate the historical traditions of our ancestors."
On the day of the traditional ceremonies commemorating the 1100th anniversary of the birth of Emperor Dinh Tien Hoang, the faces we met all shone with pride at this momentous event for their homeland.
Despite being busy with preparations for the incense offering ceremony, Mr. Dam Van Duy, the caretaker of the Temple of King Dinh Tien Hoang, still took the time to chat with us about the life and career of the King—a son of Gia Phuong.
As a child, Dinh Bo Linh often played mock battles with other buffalo herders, using reeds as flags. Thanks to his leadership skills and great ambition, he earned the respect and admiration of his friends. In 968, Dinh Bo Linh unified the 12 warlords, founded the Dinh Dynasty, ascended the throne as Emperor, ending the long period of Chinese rule and laying the foundation for national unity.
To commemorate the great contributions of the national hero, the people built the Temple of King Dinh Tien Hoang in his hometown. The temple was recognized as a National Historical Monument in 1993.
Having weathered nearly 500 years of historical ups and downs, the temple is still cherished, preserved, and restored by the people. Many ancient and valuable artifacts are preserved intact, such as the statue of King Dinh, the dragon palanquin, along with its unique architecture and couplets that clearly reflect the history of Dai Huu village and the Hoa Lu capital.
As the temple caretaker, Mr. Dam Van Duy is delighted to regularly welcome students from schools in the district for visits, extracurricular learning, and to learn about local traditions and history. In addition, visitors from all over the country come to offer incense and pay respects at the temple, all with heartfelt reverence, expressing their deep gratitude and appreciation to the King, the national hero who unified the country and established the legitimate government.
To mark the 1100th anniversary of the birth of Emperor Dinh Tien Hoang, Gia Vien district organized many meaningful activities at the temple dedicated to this national hero, fostering cultural connection and dissemination, such as: a competition for offerings to the king, a folk art performance, a trade and investment promotion program for 2024; and traditional folk games…
The activities were conducted in a solemn manner, with rich and diverse content, reflecting the national cultural identity and possessing high educational value, befitting the role of our ancestors and forefathers in the nation's historical process.
The series of activities organized on this occasion is significant in commemorating and expressing gratitude for the immense contributions of Emperor Dinh Tien Hoang to the building and protection of the nation, contributing to the preservation and promotion of the nation's historical and cultural traditions. At the same time, it aims to promote the potential and strengths of Gia Vien's socio -economic development, unique cultural features, and famous scenic spots.
Through this, we encourage and motivate Party committees, government agencies, mass organizations, armed forces, and all sectors of the population in the district to promote patriotic emulation movements, actively study, work, and produce, contributing to the successful achievement of the socio-economic development goals and tasks for 2024, and maintaining political stability, order, and social security.
