"Cleansing" the market, changing consumer behavior.

Counterfeit medicines and fake candies piled up; numerous stalls, shops, and stores closed to avoid inspection; and a multitude of products "disappearing" from e-commerce platforms… have exposed the dark side of the consumer goods market over the past decades.

After one month of implementing a concentrated campaign to combat and prevent smuggling, trade fraud, counterfeit goods, and intellectual property infringement, ministries, sectors, localities, and functional forces have detected, combated, prevented, and handled many cases and individuals violating regulations in the production and sale of counterfeit and substandard milk, medicine, food, and functional foods; and trading goods with signs of counterfeiting famous brands.

Specifically, the market management forces nationwide inspected 3,891 cases, detected and handled 3,114 violations, imposed administrative fines of over 32 billion VND, and confiscated goods worth nearly 31 billion VND; 26 cases with signs of criminal activity were transferred to the investigative agency.

These figures demonstrate the strong determination of state management agencies in strictly handling smuggling, trade fraud, counterfeit goods, and intellectual property infringement; protecting the legitimate rights and interests of citizens and businesses.

It is clear that producers, businesses, and consumers are all fundamental links in the chain that makes the problem of counterfeit, fake, and substandard goods increasingly serious. Consumers wanting delicious, beautiful, and cheap products, favoring foreign brands, and preferring well-known brands with limited budgets, give rise to manufacturers who copy designs, falsify ingredients, and exaggerate product benefits.

Along with this, the trend of fast-paced consumption and easy shopping following trends has also created opportunities for supply chains of smuggled goods and goods of unknown origin to expand their operations. When authorities intensify inspections and crackdowns on a large scale, tons or tens of tons of such goods are often discarded to avoid prosecution.

Many people call the "peak campaign to prevent and combat smuggling, trade fraud, counterfeit goods, and intellectual property infringement" a "purification" campaign aimed at removing dishonest businesses and substandard goods from the market; and restoring fair competition opportunities for reputable businesses and quality-assured products.

Consequently, manufacturers will be more serious about complying with quality management regulations. Distributors must adhere more strictly to regulations regarding origin, source, invoices, and product promotion. On the consumer side, before each purchase decision, they will consider things more carefully, proactively seek information about the origin and source of products, and avoid being swayed by trends and fads.

Using quality-assured goods not only protects consumers' health and wallets but also contributes to reducing the environmental burden caused by the enormous amount of waste generated by fast-moving consumer goods and substandard products after their short lifespan. Therefore, changing careless consumer behavior is a crucial factor, within the proactive control of consumers, in contributing to building a transparent and fair goods market.
