To effectively implement the 2018 General Education Program, Nguyen Du Secondary School (Go Vap District) has strengthened the application of information technology to deploy visual and engaging teaching methods. According to the school's management board, the 2018 General Education Program focuses on developing students' competencies and qualities; therefore, the school needs to organize diverse and enriching educational activities using advanced, learner-centered teaching methods.
Ms. Truong Thi Dep, Principal of Nguyen Du Secondary School, stated: To develop students' abilities and qualities, teachers and the school need specific solutions in teaching and learning. In particular, the school is promoting digital transformation in teaching and learning, as well as other educational activities, to help students develop self-learning habits and learn effectively through guided learning, becoming citizens of the city with a lifelong learning mindset. At the same time, the school views the effective implementation of digital transformation in education as a crucial "transformation" step to best implement the 2018 General Education Program.
To meet the human resource demands of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, many schools in the city are currently implementing computer science education for students according to the International Computer Science Standard Program. According to experts, equipping students with information technology knowledge and digital skills not only expands their learning opportunities, accesses learning resources, enhances creativity and problem-solving skills, but also motivates them to learn independently.
These are crucial prerequisites for students to become global citizens, ready to integrate internationally and effectively utilize the vast and ever-updating wealth of human knowledge. As one of the schools recognized for its effective implementation of the International Computer Science Standard Program, Nguyen Van To Secondary School (District 10) has flexibly utilized a social mobilization approach, encouraging philanthropists to participate in investment. To date, the implementation of computer science education according to international standards has been smooth and successful, creating a foundation for students to access advanced computer science programs worldwide .
Ho Chi Minh City has always considered education a top development priority; therefore, the local education budget has consistently increased year by year, currently accounting for approximately 28% of recurrent expenditures and 20% of the city's capital investment budget. Furthermore, to concretize Resolution 29, the city has issued numerous directives, plans, and resolutions with the aim of achieving an advanced level of education in Asia by 2030 and a world-class level by 2045.
To achieve this goal, the city has implemented many groundbreaking programs and projects such as: the project to popularize and improve English proficiency for high school and vocational students; the project to enhance the capacity, knowledge, and skills in applying information technology for high school students; the integrated teaching and learning program for Mathematics, Science, and English using both the English and Vietnamese curricula; the high-quality program for advanced schools and international integration; the enhanced English program, teaching English with foreign teachers... Through these, significant contributions have been made to improving the quality of education; helping students become dynamic, creative, and possess the knowledge and skills to meet the human resource requirements of the Southeast region and the whole country.
During the period 2013-2023, the total budget expenditure for education and training accounted for 20-31% of the city's total annual budget. Alongside this, the city implemented numerous policies to attract social organizations and individuals to invest in education, such as tax exemptions and reductions, support for commercial loan interest rates, and incentives for mobilizing investment capital for infrastructure development.
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, aiming for the city's education system to reach an advanced level in the Asian region by 2030, the city's education sector will continue to innovate state management, ensuring its role in fostering educational development in line with international integration trends. The city will also promote the application of information technology in organizing activities and adopt advanced teaching methods to effectively implement the 2018 General Education Program.
