Rekindling the flame of tradition for the younger generation.

Việt NamViệt Nam25/09/2024

One of the key components of the collaborative program between the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and the Vietnam Veterans Association is to jointly organize traditional education, impart revolutionary struggle experiences, and foster patriotism, aspirations for self-improvement, and entrepreneurship for the younger generation, contributing to a prosperous nation, a strong country, and a democratic, just, and civilized society.

Among many forms and methods, the Veterans Association of Doan Hung district has organized the transmission of traditions through the "Grandfather Tells Grandchild" festival, which has been well received by the Party committee, veterans, and the people as a method of keeping the flame of tradition alive and attracting the attention of the younger generation.

Rekindling the flame of tradition for the younger generation.

The "Grandfather Tells Stories to His Grandchildren" festival attracted a large number of participants.

At festivals, using a script based on real-life stories, the information and propaganda team and social opinion collaborators at the grassroots level, in coordination with the Youth Union, the Women's Union, schools, and affiliated units, presented the program "Grandfather Tells Grandchildren Stories." The District Executive Committee organized training sessions to equip association officials and the information and propaganda team and social opinion collaborators with basic knowledge about the potential and experience of veterans who have been trained and tested through revolutionary struggle; about writing and directing; about scriptwriting and program staging; and about rehearsals and performances.

From its very first edition in 2019, the festival mobilized 100% participation from the Veterans' Associations of communes and towns. The organizing committee received 33 entries from people of all walks of life. Not only did they write scripts, direct, and stage the programs, but many also directly participated as actors alongside veteran members and officials, such as teachers, students; youth union members and young people; women's association members and the elderly; children and teenagers; and even children and grandchildren of veterans working far away, as well as businesses, submitted entries.

Over the two editions of the festival, 420 people participated and over 37,000 people viewed it. It is clear that, in the current context, promoting the glorious traditions and history of the Party and the nation, especially the sacrifices of our forefathers throughout the revolutionary periods to regain independence, freedom for the Fatherland, and happiness for the people, is extremely necessary. Doing this well helps generations of Vietnamese people, especially the younger generation, understand the value of peace ; it awakens patriotism and national pride, fostering greater responsibility towards the community and society.

The "Grandfather Tells Grandchildren Stories" festival is a method of rekindling tradition, opening up vivid and engaging chapters of history, and hopefully will continue to be implemented and popularized in many localities, coinciding with important political events of the country and homeland in the future. This is also a practical program to continue implementing Directive 42/CT-TW, dated March 24, 2015, of the Central Party Secretariat on strengthening the Party's leadership over the work of educating revolutionary ideals, ethics, and cultural lifestyles for the younger generation in the period 2015-2030, and to implement the coordinated activities program between the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and the Vietnam Veterans Association in the periods 2018-2023 and 2023-2028.
