According to Le Minh Tuan (Phu Yen ward), a photography enthusiast, seawalls have long been known primarily for their function of protecting residential areas from the impact of sea waves. Recently, with the addition of bright colors to the concrete wave barriers, the structures have become more vibrant, lively, and accessible to the community. "In my opinion, this is a good approach. A structure serving the public retains its original function while simultaneously creating a space for people to relax, admire the sea, and take photos. Familiar viewpoints suddenly become much more novel," Tuan shared.
Not only locals, but many tourists from other provinces and cities also flocked to the Xom Ro embankment after images of the colorful structure spread on social media. Ms. Hoang Thi Thanh Ha, a tourist from Hanoi, said that her family decided to visit the area during their summer vacation because they were curious about the beauty of the coastal embankment.

"I saw quite a few pictures of this seawall on social media, so I wanted to come and see it. The colorful concrete wave-breaking blocks stand out against the blue sea, creating a very pleasant visual effect. Especially in the late afternoon, when the sun is setting, the entire seawall is bathed in a beautiful golden-orange light," Ms. Ha shared.
According to the People's Committee of Phu Yen ward, the painting of the tetrapod blocks began in early June with the support and provision of materials from businesses. The process involved several stages such as surface cleaning, priming, and applying the final color to ensure durability in coastal weather conditions. To date, more than 100 meters of the embankment have been completed. The local authorities plan to expand the scope, aiming to paint approximately 200 meters of the embankment in the Ganh Den area.
"The idea of renovating the embankment stems from the desire to create a scenic highlight for the coastal area, while also meeting the increasing demand for sightseeing and experiences from locals and tourists. Renovating and beautifying the landscape not only contributes to improving the quality of life but also adds appeal to community tourism," said Nguyen Xuan Canh, Chairman of the People's Committee of Phu Yen Ward.
The Xóm Rớ embankment, specifically the Gành Đèn section, is approximately 1 km long and is one of the components of the Xóm Rớ breakwater project. It was constructed to combat coastal erosion and protect the surrounding residential area and infrastructure. From a structure serving disaster prevention, it is gradually becoming a unique public space, enriching the experiences of locals and tourists visiting the eastern coastal region of Dak Lak .
