According to PhoneArena , the report comes from a Foxconn employee in a conversation with the Chinese publication IT Home , who revealed the exact battery sizes for all four members of the iPhone 15 series. While the standard model has a nearly 18% increase in battery capacity, the Pro Max model also has a 12% increase.
With up to 18% more battery capacity, the iPhone 15 series can last up to 3 days of use.
PHONEARENA SCREENSHOT
If accurate, this could be the most significant improvement to the iPhone 15 series. However, the accuracy of the source is about 80%, especially since reports suggest Apple will use the same chassis for the iPhone 15 series, meaning it's unclear how the company will fit those larger batteries.
It's known that the iPhone 14 Pro Max and 13 Pro Max have been leading the way in battery life compared to other high-end phones for the past few years, so increasing battery capacity along with a more efficient chip will give the iPhone 15 series an even greater advantage over its competitors.
If the rumors about the battery size are accurate, here are some possible figures:
- iPhone 15: 3,877 mAh (an 18% increase compared to 3,279 mAh on the iPhone 14)
- iPhone 15 Pro: 3,650 mAh (a 14% increase compared to 3,200 mAh on the iPhone 14 Pro)
- iPhone 15 Plus: 4,912 mAh (a 14% increase compared to 4,325 mAh on the iPhone 14 Plus)
- iPhone 15 Pro Max: 4,852 mAh (a 12% increase compared to 4,323 mAh on the iPhone 14 Pro Max)
The data above suggests these are significant improvements, especially for the standard iPhone 15 model, which could feature a larger battery than the iPhone 12 Pro Max. The currently sold iPhone 14 has an average screen-on time of around 6 hours, and the new changes could allow for up to 7 hours on the iPhone 15.
With the iPhone 15 Plus and 15 Pro Max models, they also receive a significant battery life boost. Currently, most people get an average of about 2 days of use between charges, but that number could extend to 3 days with the new battery size. This is even better when you look at the 3nm A17 Bionic chip that will be in the high-end models, promising a 35% improvement in energy efficiency compared to the A16 Bionic.
In addition, with all members of the iPhone 15 series switching from Lightning to USB-C ports, Apple can significantly increase their charging speeds with higher-wattage chargers than currently available.
