'Teacher' Dong Trieu makes his mark

FPT Polytechnic College boasts a formidable team selected from across the country, along with thorough and rigorous training. To prepare for the northern qualifying round, the FPT Polytechnic College team rented the Thuy Loi Stadium to practice, familiarize themselves with the playing space, gain match feel, and test their tactics. Entering the tournament while their opponents were still warming up, FPT Polytechnic College pulled ahead from the start.

More importantly, on the coaching bench, FPT Polytechnic College also has an experienced "brain," Tran Huu Dong Trieu. The former national team player, born in 1995, is one of the youngest coaches at the TNSV THACO Cup, but also one of the most experienced. Dong Trieu has had a football career spanning nearly 15 years. The 31-year-old center-back, along with Cong Phuong, Xuan Truong, Tuan Anh, Van Toan… are outstanding products of the first and second graduating classes of the HAGL Arsenal - JMG Football Academy. Along with Cong Phuong, Xuan Truong, and Tuan Anh, Dong Trieu even underwent short-term training at Arsenal. He is one of the rare individuals who had early exposure to European football, received systematic training, and possesses a modern approach to the game.

Choosing to switch to coaching at the end of 2023, at the young age of 28, Dong Trieu brought with him a wealth of playing experience to impart to his students, along with deep empathy and understanding. "I accepted the invitation from FPT Polytechnic College without much hesitation. I was interested in the direction and policies for student football that the partner school offered. I also love the student football environment, so I immediately agreed," he shared.

Dong Trieu was once a player and a student. At FPT Polytechnic College, he is both a teacher and a trusted mentor, guiding the younger generation. It is the youthful energy and dynamism of this former central defender that binds the FPT Polytechnic College football team together, creating a highly competitive and resilient team.

Watching the FPT Polytechnic College team play, the influence of coach Dong Trieu is easily noticeable. The players confidently pass and build up play, prioritizing a systematic and sequential style of play. Although FPT Polytechnic College already has a group of professionally trained players, it's worth noting that Dong Trieu has meticulously orchestrated the game, allowing the players to play attractively while simultaneously achieving effectiveness.

Against their opponent, the Hanoi University of Physical Education and Sports, Coach Dong Trieu's FPT Polytechnic College team played an open and balanced attacking game. "The THACO Cup student football tournament is always full of energy and youthfulness, creating an irresistible attraction for fans. For me, the Thanh Nien Newspaper student football tournament is also beautiful because of its innocent and selfless spirit of dedication. I like the genuine emotions of the student players when they give their all in football. I want the players to freely express their personality and youthful energy. Student life only comes once in a lifetime, so they must compete in a way that doesn't waste their youth," Coach Dong Trieu affirmed.
