Similar to the two previous films, “28 Years Later” continues to be set in England, which has been devastated by a virus called “Rage.” Instead of becoming “walking corpses,” those infected become aggressive, completely lose control of themselves, and are consumed by rage. Their sole purpose is to attack and infect others. This is somewhat reflected in the opening segment of the trailer above.
“28 Years Later” centers on the journey of Jamie and Spike, a father and son, as they leave their home island, which remains fortified amidst the pandemic, to travel to the mainland for an undisclosed purpose. This journey is predicted to be particularly dangerous, as they will have to fend for themselves regardless of the circumstances, without support from family on the island.
The trailer for “28 Years Later” doesn't reveal too many details about the film's plot. Instead, Sony has focused on showcasing thrilling and suspenseful action sequences, intense chases, and a vivid portrayal of the ferocity of those infected with the Rage virus.
Furthermore, many scenes depict widespread devastation and the suffering of survivors, highlighting the fact that the battle between the infected and the uninfected is far from over after nearly three decades.
Another interesting detail in the trailer is the appearance of mysterious symbols, which fans have deciphered as the phrase "memento mori" (remember that you will die). This is the password to unlock the website rageleaks.net, which contains a secret file revealing more information about the island called Lindisfarne Commune. According to the file, Lindisfarne is a safe community with stable social order, and there have been no attempts to break the quarantine. This suggests that it may be one of the few places that still maintains peace amidst a world full of frenzied infected individuals and a collapsing civilization.
The film features many big names such as Ralph Fiennes, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodie Comer, and Alfie Williams.
