While it's too early to tell how much money it'll make, the latest installment could easily outpace its predecessor , Godzilla vs. Kong , which was a pandemic hit with $474 million worldwide (surpassing 2019's King of the Monsters , which grossed $387 million) despite many theaters being closed at the time due to Covid-19.

Sony's Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire came in second with $15.7 million from 4,345 theaters, down 65% from its debut. After two weeks in release, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire has grossed $73.4 million at the North American box office and $108.5 million worldwide. With a production cost of $100 million, not including massive marketing costs, Sony's film needs to gross over $200 million to break even.
Universal and DreamWorks Animation's Kung Fu Panda 4 came in third with $10 million from 3,582 theaters. The animated family film has so far grossed $151 million in North America and more than $347 million worldwide. With a production budget of $85 million, Kung Fu Panda 4 is a big hit.
Dune: Part Two dropped to No. 4 in its fifth weekend on the big screen. The sci-fi film earned $9.85 million over the weekend and $251 million to date in North America. It is now the year's top-grossing film with $626 million worldwide.
Horror film Immaculate rounded out the top five with $3.2 million from 2,362 theaters in North America, down 41% from last weekend, earning $11.1 million after two weeks in theaters.
