General Secretary To Lam: Enhancing the position of Vietnam News Agency as a prestigious news agency in the region

On the morning of September 14, at the National News Center, No. 5 Ly Thuong Kiet, Hanoi, Vietnam News Agency (VNA) solemnly held a ceremony to receive the Ho Chi Minh Medal (for the third time) and celebrate the 80th anniversary of Vietnam News Agency's traditional day (September 15, 1945 - September 15, 2025).

General Secretary To Lam attended and delivered a speech at the ceremony. President Luong Cuong, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man , and Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Do Van Chien sent flower baskets and congratulatory letters on the 80th anniversary of VNA's traditional day.

Also attending were Politburo members, Party Central Committee Secretaries: Phan Dinh Trac, Head of the Party Central Committee's Internal Affairs Commission; Nguyen Trong Nghia, Head of the Party Central Committee's Propaganda and Education Commission; Politburo members: General Phan Van Giang, Minister of National Defense; General Luong Tam Quang, Minister of Public Security ; comrades: Le Hoai Trung, Party Central Committee Secretary, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs; Bui Thanh Son, Party Central Committee Member, Deputy Prime Minister; Vu Hong Thanh, Party Central Committee Member, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly.

Also attending were members of the Party Central Committee; leaders of central departments, ministries, branches and agencies; leaders and former leaders of VNA; representatives of relatives of VNA's martyr journalists; and a large number of reporters, editors, technicians and staff of VNA through the years; and representatives of many international news agencies and press organizations in Vietnam.

On the side of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, there was comrade Le Hai Binh, alternate member of the Party Central Committee, Permanent Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Speaking at the ceremony, General Secretary To Lam emphasized that, born and growing up with the growth of the country, generations of VNA journalists have always been steadfast in spirit and enthusiasm, not afraid of difficulties, hardships and sacrifices to contribute to writing the heroic epic of the country, the glorious Party, the beloved Fatherland Vietnam and of VNA journalists themselves.

On behalf of the Party and State leaders, the General Secretary respectfully sends to the leaders, reporters, editors, technicians and staff of VNA through the periods, as well as relatives of journalists-martyrs and journalists-war invalids, warm congratulations, kind regards and the most precious feelings; especially praising the merits and contributions of generations of leaders, cadres, reporters, technicians and workers of VNA through the periods to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation as well as contributing to the chronicle of Vietnam's revolutionary journalism.

In the context of the new situation, the General Secretary pointed out that VNA needs to constantly innovate itself to develop commensurate with the stature of the times, with the development of the country, continue to affirm its role as a strategic and reliable information agency of the Party and State; be an official source of information, a positive mainstream of information on the press and ideological front; need to closely follow and grasp developments in the domestic situation and fluctuations in the international situation; proactively collect and synthesize information sources; comprehensively analyze, evaluate and forecast the situation accurately and promptly; provide valuable news reports, even advise, propose and recommend to the Party and State leaders to make appropriate decisions, not to be passive or surprised. VNA's information needs to be accurate, objective, humane and useful for the country and the people.

To perform well in the new development stage of the country, the General Secretary emphasized that VNA journalists need to constantly train themselves to have a strong political stance, be loyal to the revolutionary ideal, affirm their role as pioneers, excellently complete all tasks assigned by the Party and State, widely inform about Vietnam's guidelines, policies, laws and development achievements, contribute to fostering trust and consensus in society; inspire and arouse the desire of the whole society to contribute to the cause of national development.

To fulfill this requirement, VNA journalists need to uphold the ethics, integrity and social responsibility of journalists, overcome material temptations to always stand on the side of justice, use their pens to protect the right, progress, and goodness, and eliminate bad and evil in society and within themselves.

In the face of the wave of digital transformation and fierce competition in the global media space, the General Secretary noted that VNA journalists need to continue to strongly innovate their reporting methods and information transmission; pioneer in applying modern technology, mastering digital platforms, artificial intelligence, and big data.

In working, we must always be sensitive to new things but also be extremely cautious. In the information highway, truth and falsehood are often mixed together. We must always improve our knowledge and journalistic skills to have accurate professional reflexes, master technology to identify, publish and handle fake and untrue information as quickly as possible; at the same time, we must select new core issues to promptly provide to the Party and State leaders and the media system.

The General Secretary requested that VNA should do better in building databases because data is a means of production in the digital age. Building a scientific press data system, including a particularly valuable national information center and photo archive that you are storing, will be an important foundation for VNA to develop creative journalism, data journalism and contribute to forming a national "common memory".

Emphasizing that deep international integration is one of the key orientations in the coming period of the country, the General Secretary suggested that it is necessary to continue to proactively expand cooperation with major news agencies and prestigious press agencies in the world, raising the position of VNA as a prestigious news agency in the region.

In addition to actively promoting the image of the country, culture and people of Vietnam to international friends, there needs to be many creative solutions to cooperate with partners to create positive information products about the development and growth of Vietnam to spread on global platforms and convey the civilized developments of humanity and the world to the Vietnamese people.

The General Secretary instructed that it is necessary to continue to reorganize internal organizations to operate more effectively with better treatment for core forces. At the same time, VNA also needs to pay special attention to recruiting and training high-quality young human resources with aspirations, ambitions and enthusiasm to meet the requirements of tasks in the new situation, continuing the very proud tradition of VNA; it is necessary to continue to learn and share modern journalism models to contribute to the development of Vietnam's revolutionary journalism career.

The General Secretary expressed that the past 80 years have proven that in any historical period - war or peace - news reporters have always demonstrated steadfast political will, a spirit of dedication, and a willingness to contribute, sacrifice, and wholeheartedly serve the Party, the State and the people. The photos on display today within the framework of the Commemoration Ceremony, although only a very small part of the rich photo archive of VNA, have truly reflected those values.

The General Secretary hopes that in the new era of development of the country, each reporter, editor, technician and worker of VNA will carry in their hearts the pride of the glorious tradition, follow in the footsteps of previous generations with the aspiration for innovation and pioneering spirit in action, affirming their role, mettle and creativity.

With its heroic tradition, determination to innovate and aspiration to rise up, the General Secretary believes that VNA will develop strongly, maintain the source of official information, lead the flow of public opinion, and continue to affirm its role as a national news agency, a strategic and trustworthy information agency of the Party and State.

At the ceremony, on behalf of the Party and State leaders, General Secretary To Lam awarded the Ho Chi Minh Order to Vietnam News Agency for its long tradition, great contributions, and outstanding achievements in the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation.
