More high-quality rice varieties take root in Muong Than fields

(BLC) - Than Uyen District Agricultural Service Center has just coordinated with ThaiBinh Seed Group Joint Stock Company (Phu Tho Branch) to organize a Field Conference to evaluate the results of the demonstration model of high-quality purebred rice variety BC15 and new hybrid rice variety Thai Xuyen 111, in En Noi village (Muong Than commune). The successful model contributes to effectively exploiting the potential and advantages of the locality, increasing income for the people.

The field of En Noi village (Muong Than commune) was selected to implement the demonstration model of new rice varieties BC15 and Thai Xuyen 111, with a scale of 2.2 hectares. Both rice varieties were planted from mid-January 2023, with the participation of 16 households in En Noi village. Participating households were supported with 100% of seeds, neck blast pesticides, training in sowing techniques, and pest control.

Leaders of the district, communes, towns and some specialized agencies of the district and province visited the demonstration model.

Mr. Nguyen Huu Hop - Branch Manager of ThaiBinh Seed Group Joint Stock Company said: BC15 rice variety is a pure high-yield rice variety, copyrighted by ThaiBinh Seed Group Joint Stock Company. Recognized as a national variety in 2008, this is a temperate rice variety, widely adaptable, tolerant to intensive cultivation, with a growing period of 130 - 140 days for the winter-spring crop, with an average yield of 70 - 75 quintals/ha, with good intensive cultivation it can reach 90 - 100 quintals/ha. BC15 gives good quality rice, long, clear grains, white, shiny, soft rice, rich flavor.

Thai Xuyen 111 is also a heat-sensitive rice variety, widely adaptable, tolerant to intensive cultivation, quite resistant to blast, and slightly infected with bacterial leaf blight. The rice quality is delicious, the rice grains are clear, the rice is soft, and has a light aroma. The average yield of Thai Xuyen 111 hybrid rice variety is from 70 - 80 quintals/ha, and with good intensive cultivation it can reach 90 - 100 quintals/ha. To comprehensively evaluate the yield and quality of the new rice varieties BC15 and Thai Xuyen 111, when implementing the demonstration model, we chose the control rice varieties Bac Thom No. 7 and Nhi Uu 838, respectively.

In recent times, Than Uyen district has proactively tested many new rice varieties with high yield and good quality. Especially adaptable to unusual weather conditions, the situation of pests and diseases is increasingly complicated. Mr. Do Ngoc Tu - Director of Than Uyen District Agricultural Service Center said: The unit cooperated with ThaiBinh Seed Group Joint Stock Company to implement a demonstration model of high-quality purebred rice BC15 and hybrid rice Thai Xuyen 111 with the desire to find new solutions, contributing to ensuring food security, creating a breakthrough in food production towards commodities.

During the testing process, entering the winter-spring crop, BC15 and Thai Xuyen 111 rice varieties appeared some pests and diseases such as: neck blast, brown spot disease, stem borer, and planthoppers, all of which were slightly damaged, equivalent to the control variety. We instructed farmers to treat the above pests and diseases with pesticides at one time. The results of the model showed that BC15 and Thai Xuyen 111 rice varieties both had a higher total number of grains and a higher number of solid grains than the control variety. Through economic calculation, it was shown that the new variety BC15 gave a higher profit than the control variety Bac Thom No. 7 by nearly 6.9 million VND/ha. The new variety Thai Xuyen 111 gave a higher profit than the control variety Nhi Uu 838 by 5,490,000 VND/ha.

Delegates attending the Field Conference discussed the productivity, quality and suitability of the rice varieties being demonstrated.

Ms. Lo Thi Son - En Noi village happily said: My family planted BC15 rice variety on an area of about 3,500m2. After one crop, it was shown that this is a rice variety that does not require too much technical care. When the plants were found to be infected with rice blast disease, the family sprayed pesticides and had immediate results. The area of rice with high yield and output is an important factor for my family to expand the production area in the next crops.

The results of the models are the premise for Than Uyen district to continue using the above rice varieties in the next production seasons. In order for the new rice varieties BC15 and Thai Xuyen 111 to expand their acreage, farmers also hope for synchronous coordination in implementing and replicating the model and creating a link from production to product consumption.
