Keep the passion alive…
Sculptor Nguyen Van Huy has impressed with his award-winning sculptures at art competitions both within and outside the province. After his initial experiences, Nguyen Van Huy boldly chose to focus on portraits of famous people, including renowned Vietnamese writers, poets, and musicians.
Portrait sculpture is a genre that receives little attention from sculptors. Creating this type of sculpture requires the artist to have a deep impression of the subject and to express that portrait vividly in their own unique way. Furthermore, it only develops when there is a large volume of commissioned work.
Nguyen Van Huy doesn't hesitate to say this: to survive in a profession, one must be able to make a living from it. However, Huy's decision to focus on portrait sculpting wasn't an experiment, but rather a way to express his soul and feelings towards those who have made significant contributions to the fields of culture and art.
To realize that idea, Huy has been actively working on completing a series of portrait sculptures of famous writers and musicians from both the North and South of Vietnam, such as Pham Duy, Son Nam, Tram Tu Thieng, Tu Cong Phung, Pham Tuyen, Thanh Tung, Bui Giang, etc. He said that he is trying to organize a solo sculpture exhibition in Tam Ky with the main theme being portrait sculptures.

Spreading the values of Phuoc Kieu bronze casting craft…
Nguyen Van Huy has been involved with the Phuoc Kieu bronze casting village for many years, starting with projects that combined artisans and sculptors. From those initial experiences, Nguyen Van Huy has always been concerned about finding new directions for Phuoc Kieu bronze products.
The success of the full-body portrait statue of hero Nguyen Van Troi made from Phuoc Kieu bronze inspired Nguyen Van Huy to undertake the Phuoc Kieu Huy Anh project - specializing in researching new products that suit the tastes and needs of customers, especially domestic and international tourists visiting Quang Nam .
That's also the reason why the Phước Kiều copper souvenir product line was created. Nguyễn Văn Huy said: “Initially, I only thought about making purely Phước Kiều copper products that are small and lightweight to serve tourists as souvenirs when they come to Quảng Nam. These could be familiar objects, scenic spots, or animals around us…”

However, when we started working on it, another idea arose: how to spread the cultural and historical values of the land and people of Quang Nam province using Phuoc Kieu bronze material.
Thus, a line of souvenir products embodying the culture and history of the land and people of Quang Nam was born. These could include products featuring the towers in the My Son temple complex, the mystical Apsara dancers, the Japanese Bridge in Hoi An, the portrait of Mother Thu, and cultural symbols of Quang Nam such as the heritage sites of Hoi An and My Son, honoring the Vietnamese Quốc ngữ script…
Each product made from Phuoc Kieu bronze has a different size, weight, and design, but most are lightweight, aesthetically pleasing in color and shape, creating a unique impression in the eyes of the viewer.
To find outlets for this product line, Nguyen Van Huy worked to connect with organizations such as the My Son World Heritage Site Management Board, Hoi An, and souvenir shops in various localities in the province, especially in Duy Xuyen, Hoi An, and Dien Ban.
"Perhaps my product has the potential to fill a gap in souvenir options for tourists visiting My Son, Hoi An, etc., which is why it has received such positive feedback. This motivates me to continue exploring this product line further," Nguyen Van Huy added.
The Phuoc Kieu Huy Anh copper project is perhaps contributing to opening new avenues for the centuries-old craft village. Such efforts need to be encouraged to continuously honor and preserve the values of traditional craft villages in Quang Nam province. Only by giving them a new look with distinctive shapes, styles, and colors can traditional values endure in life...
