Thiago Silva burst into tears

Fluminense captain Thiago Silva was emotional as his team beat Inter Milan to reach the quarter-finals of the FIFA Club World Cup 2025™ early morning of July 1.

At the age of 40, Silva played the full 90 minutes in the 2-0 win over the UEFA Champions League runners-up. It was Fluminense's third clean sheet in the tournament. After the match, Silva shed tears of joy as he kissed his wife Isabele in the stands.

The 40-year-old centre-back told DAZN : "I am very proud of the team and my teammates. This match was really difficult when facing a club that just played in the UEFA Champions League final a month ago. The weather conditions were also very harsh, but Fluminense showed the image of a great team."

Despite Inter Milan controlling the ball well and having 16 shots in the match, the Fluminense defense under Silva's direction stood firm. Two goals from German Cano and Hercules helped the Brazilian representative to advance to the next round.

Meanwhile, Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez also shared about the hot weather and the difficulties the team faced. He admitted: "We did not play well in the first half. Inter conceded too many goals and lost the ball. Fluminense defended well and played effective counter-attacks. I apologize to the fans and those who came here to support."

Fluminense will face either Manchester City or Al Hilal in the quarter-finals, which promises to be a big test for the Brazilian side in their quest for the title.
