On the afternoon of January 5th, Manchester United's official website confirmed that head coach Ruben Amorim had left the club with immediate effect.
The Athletic reports that the Portuguese manager was informed of the decision immediately after the 1-1 draw against Leeds United on January 4th, his final match as Manchester United's head coach.
Amorim was appointed by MU in November 2024 from Sporting CP, replacing Erik ten Hag. In 14 months, he managed the "Red Devils" in 47 Premier League matches but only won 15, a win rate of 31%.
Across all competitions, manager Ruben Amorim only achieved a win rate of a mere 36.92%. This is also the worst record among managers who have led Manchester United since the Sir Alex Ferguson era.
Failing to keep a clean sheet against Leeds United also led to Amorim setting an unwanted record. According to Squawka, MU have gone 15 consecutive away matches in the Premier League without keeping a clean sheet. This is the first time this has happened in the club's history.
This season, Manchester United have also experienced their worst start since the 1992/93 season. Notably, in the 14 months that Amorim has been in charge, the Red Devils have only won consecutive Premier League matches once.
Manchester United currently sit sixth in the Premier League after 20 rounds, but have only won one of their last five matches. Darren Fletcher, a former legendary midfielder for the club and now the head coach of the U18 team, is expected to take on the interim role.
