Latest information on high school graduation exam structure from 2025

In this decision, the Ministry of Education and Training stated that the exam format structure is the basis for building a question bank and creating exam questions for the high school graduation exam from 2025.

In the high school graduation exam from 2025, only the literature subject will be tested in essay format with a time limit of 120 minutes. The exam consists of 2 parts: reading comprehension (4 points) and writing (6 points).

The remaining subjects are tested in multiple-choice format, with math lasting 90 minutes and the remaining subjects lasting 50 minutes.

The specific structure of the multiple choice test is as follows:

The questions for the multiple choice test are divided into 3 parts, in which part 1 consists of multiple choice questions, with 4 options to choose 1 correct answer. For each correct answer, the candidate gets 0.25 points.

Part 2 consists of multiple choice questions in true/false format. Each question has 4 options, for each option the candidate chooses true or false.

Candidates who choose only 1 correct answer in a question will get 0.1 point; choose 2 correct answers in a question will get 0.25 points; choose 3 correct answers in a question will get 0.5 points; choose all 4 correct answers in a question will get 1 point.

Part 3 consists of multiple choice questions in short answer format. Candidates fill in the boxes corresponding to their answers.

For math, in part 3, each correct answer will be worth 0.5 points. For other subjects in this part, each correct answer will be worth 0.25 points.

All exams are graded on a 10-point scale.

According to the announced decision, from 2025, the first year students graduate under the 2018 General Education Program, candidates will only take 4 subjects. Of which, there are 2 compulsory subjects: literature and mathematics; 2 optional subjects (among the remaining subjects studied in grade 12 including: foreign languages, history, physics, chemistry, biology, geography, economic and legal education, information technology, technology).

Previously, in December 2023, the Ministry of Education and Training announced an illustration of the 2025 high school graduation exam format structure for all subjects.

The Ministry of Education and Training said: "The illustrative exam with the new format structure has been tested in the provinces and cities of Hanoi , Hai Phong, Ninh Binh, Gia Lai, Thai Nguyen with nearly 5,000 students.

The results of the test structure testing were analyzed according to classical and modern testing theories as recommended by theEducational Testing Service (ETS) at a national training session for more than 3,500 officials, lecturers, and teachers from 63 Departments of Education and Training and 12 higher education institutions from December 11 to 17, 2023.
