According to reports from Kyiv Independent reporters on the scene, Russian forces launched a series of missile attacks on the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, on the morning of May 24. Reports from the Ukrainian Air Force indicate that their air defense units recorded "several missiles flying towards Kyiv at 00:30 on May 24."

At 00:55 on May 24th, the Ukrainian Air Force issued a warning about the possibility that Moscow's forces had used the advanced Oreshnik ballistic missile to attack several areas.
Tymur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv city military agency, said local authorities have recorded explosions in the Shevchenkovskyi, Solomianskyi, Darnytskyi, Dniprovskyi and Podil districts, “injuring at least three people.”
Several videos cited by the Russian news agency RT from Ukrainian media and Telegram accounts show people using their phones to record scenes of glowing objects hurtling from the sky to the ground. A few seconds later, several loud explosions could be heard in the distance.

The Russian military has not yet confirmed whether it used Oreshnik missiles to attack Ukraine in the early hours of May 24th.
According to RT, these attacks by Moscow's forces took place amidst recent directives from Russian President Vladimir Putin to the military to retaliate against Ukraine following the attack on the Starobelsk vocational college in Luhansk, which killed dozens of civilians.
