The hydroponic vegetable production area of Phu Loc Agricultural Service Cooperative (Hau Loc) has achieved high economic efficiency.
According to statistics from the Provincial Cooperative Union, as of May 2025, the whole province has 1,374 cooperatives, with about 252,000 members. Of which, the number of employees working regularly at cooperatives is about 40,000 people. The number of newly established cooperatives and cooperative unions has increased in most districts, towns and cities. This shows that the collective economy and cooperative models are suitable for the production organization needs of the people, contributing to promoting value chain linkages in production, especially in the agricultural sector. However, most cooperatives in the province are established on a small and micro scale, so attracting more members to join in accordance with the Law on Cooperatives 2012 and the Law on Cooperatives 2023 is difficult. The fact that cooperatives have a small number of members is also proportional to low charter capital, not having enough potential to invest in developing large-scale commodity production and applying high technology. Therefore, to attract members to contribute capital, the management board of cooperatives must be proactive, change production thinking, develop and diversify service and business types to create a production and consumption value chain, bringing profits to cooperatives and farmers.
Phu Loc Agricultural Service Cooperative (Hau Loc) is one of the typical models of cooperatives in the whole commune, most households in the commune participate in contributing land and capital to develop production and business. With about 1,000 members, the cooperative produces about 200 hectares of rice/year and more than 220 hectares of fertile land. Attracting nearly 100% of households in the commune to participate in the cooperative is a big step forward, contributing to improving the production level and income of the people. At the same time, it is convenient for the application of synchronous mechanization and large-scale production of commercial crops in the locality. Thanks to that, the average production value per hectare of agricultural land in the locality reaches more than 200 million VND/ha/year.
Mr. Nguyen Van Toan, Director of the Cooperative, said: To attract people to participate, first of all, the Cooperative must build an effective production and business plan, suitable to the needs and production capacity of the people. At the same time, invest in building facilities such as warehouses, stores, yards, internal irrigation systems, plows, combine harvesters to help members increase crops, increase income value per unit area; take the initiative in finding markets for output products for members and non-member customers. Thereby, creating trust and expectations of the people in the Cooperative.
Similarly, Thieu Hung Agricultural Service Cooperative (Thieu Hoa) has also attracted more and more farmers to join the cooperative. Established in 2006 with about 10 members, up to now, thanks to effective production and business activities, creating trust for local farmers, the cooperative has 505 members. Mr. Nguyen Van Duong, Director of the Cooperative, said: For an agricultural cooperative, the main efficiency is to build an effective production and business plan, solving the problem of output for agricultural products. When the production capacity is affirmed, creating profits for farmers, they will voluntarily join the cooperative, thereby facilitating the cooperative's operation and production organization.
It is known that with investment in developing large-scale agricultural production and applying high technology, Thieu Hung Agricultural Service Cooperative has developed about 20 hectares of greenhouses and net houses to grow safe vegetables, tubers and fruits that meet VietGAP standards, and at the same time built stable product consumption chains. Up to now, the average revenue has reached more than 20 billion VND/year, creating jobs for hundreds of local workers. Currently, the Cooperative has 2 products, Van Ha yellow melon and Baby cucumber, which have achieved 4-star OCOP certification.
According to a survey by the Provincial Cooperative Union, there are many typical cooperatives in the province that have attracted a large number of members, such as: Dong Tien Mechanization Service Cooperative (formerly Dong Son) with 121 members, Xuan Minh Agricultural and Rural Development Cooperative (Tho Xuan) with 266 members, Binh Son Agricultural and Forestry Service Cooperative (Trieu Son) with 65 members... Ms. Ha Thi Thuy, Head of Policy and Movement Department (Provincial Cooperative Union), said: "Currently, more and more economic types are being established, requiring cooperatives, especially agricultural cooperatives, to change their thinking and innovate their methods of operation to develop effectively. At the same time, the team of cooperative managers and operators need to change their thinking, demonstrate to the people their capacity and effectiveness in connecting production and consumption of agricultural products to bring practical benefits to farmers. From effective production and business models, local farmers will be willing to contribute land, contribute capital, and register to participate in cooperatives".
