Raising black apple snails helps Ms. Truong Thi Yen have a stable income.
From nearly 500m2 of ineffective fruit growing land, in 2022, Ms. Yen decided to switch to raising black apple snails. According to Ms. Yen, initially, she invested over 10 million VND to dig a pond, buy equipment and snail seeds to raise. The process of raising black apple snails encountered many difficulties, especially disease prevention and control and choosing the right food for the snails took a lot of time.
Through time of learning, researching books, newspapers as well as experimenting with many different types of food, Ms. Yen finally realized that vegetables, tubers and fruits are the best food for black apple snails. Therefore, to keep black apple snails healthy and growing well, Ms. Yen provides many types of fresh vegetables, tubers and fruits every day. From raising to harvesting black apple snails takes about 4 months, on average, she raises 3 crops per year, selling at a relatively stable price (50,000 VND/kg). From 1.5 kg of original black apple snails, Ms. Yen harvests about 400 kg/crop, earning a profit of nearly 20 million VND/crop.
Having succeeded in raising black apple snails, in 2023, Ms. Yen decided to switch to both raising and hatching snails to supply to customers inside and outside the commune. Thanks to that, her family's life has been increasingly improved./.
