Becamex Ho Chi Minh City is on red alert after losing to Hai Phong.

Losing 2-4 to Hai Phong FC in round 23 of the LPBank V-League 2025-2026, Becamex Ho Chi Minh City failed to improve their position and risk being drawn into a relegation battle with only 3 rounds remaining.

On the evening of May 16th, Becamex Ho Chi Minh City played against Hai Phong FC at Lach Tray Stadium. Hai Phong had almost no objectives left and had removed Chu Dinh Nghiem from his role as head coach. This should have been an opportunity for Becamex Ho Chi Minh City to salvage some points and escape the relegation zone. However, the Southern team had a poor performance on the day their new coach, Hua Hien Vinh, made his debut.

In the 13th minute, Hai Phong FC found the back of the net against Becamex Ho Chi Minh City. Luiz Antonio confidently dribbled the ball and unleashed a superb shot from outside the penalty area, opening the scoring for the team from the port city.

Becamex TP.HCM launched a counter-attack and scored the equalizer in the 18th minute, making the score 1-1. Goalkeeper Dinh Trieu fumbled a shot from the edge of the penalty area by Nguyen Thanh Nhan, allowing the ball to rebound perfectly for Nguyen Van Anh to follow up with a shot.

Two goals scored by both clubs in less than halftime made the match more open. Hai Phong FC played comfortably and took a 2-1 lead in the 28th minute, after Trieu Viet Hung's left-footed curling shot sent the ball into the net in a "falling leaf" trajectory.

One masterpiece followed another in the 32nd minute, when Zlatkovic Milos equalized 2-2 for Becamex TP.HCM from a free kick nearly 20 meters out.

In the second half, the fans at Lach Tray Stadium continued to witness a goalfest. However, in this half, only Hai Phong enjoyed the joy.

In the 61st minute, defender Pham Trung Hieu dribbled the ball and curled a shot with his right foot into the top corner of the goal, giving Hai Phong a 3-2 lead.

In the 75th minute, the port city team sealed the victory with a goal from Nguyen Huu Son, making the final score 4-2. He intercepted the ball after a defensive error by Becamex TP.HCM and punished the opponent with a low curling shot from just outside the penalty area.

Despite having a strong squad, Becamex Ho Chi Minh City FC lost 2-4 to Hai Phong, extending their disappointing run to seven consecutive winless matches. Coach Hua Hien Vinh's team remains stuck in 12th place (out of 14 clubs) with 21 points.

This is a red flag for Becamex Ho Chi Minh City, because if the bottom-placed team, PVF-CAND, wins in this round, Coach Hien Vinh's team will be very anxious in the final three rounds.
