Currently, the Quang Ninh Coal Mining Youth Union has over 10,600 members. Imbued with President Ho Chi Minh's teaching: "Youth are the pillars of the nation," the young people of the coal industry always play a pioneering, creative, and leading role in labor, production, and technological innovation. In a unique and arduous working environment, each Youth Union member continuously hones their character and willpower to overcome difficulties, readily taking on challenging positions, new tasks, and fields requiring high technical skills.
As a youth leader, Mr. Pham Van Hanh, Secretary of the Youth Union of Ha Tu Coal Joint Stock Company - Vinacomin, along with more than 300 union members of the unit, has competed in creative labor, carrying out many valuable projects and tasks, contributing to the modernization of the enterprise's production activities. Notably, the project involved the construction of a control and monitoring system for pump cluster 3-4 and a screening system with a capacity of 2.5 million tons/year. This project not only optimizes operating costs and improves equipment management efficiency but also marks a significant step in the unit's digital transformation process.
Mr. Pham Van Hanh, Secretary of the Youth Union of Ha Tu Coal Joint Stock Company - Vinacomin, shared: "The breakthrough of the project is its complete technological self-reliance. Instead of using expensive commercial solutions, the unit's youth union members directly researched and designed the hardware circuits, developed management software on the IoT platform, and mastered modern industrial protocols. The real-time monitoring system built has helped the equipment operate safely and stably in all weather conditions, gradually realizing the goal of building a 'Smart Mine'."
Not only Pham Van Hanh, but from the emulation movement in labor, production, and innovation, more and more outstanding young people have emerged, such as: Nguyen Trung Tin (Vang Danh Coal Joint Stock Company - Vinacomin); Nguyen Van Anh, Le Ngoc Khanh, Nguyen Quang Toan (Mong Duong Coal Joint Stock Company - Vinacomin); Trinh Cong Ly (Thong Nhat Coal Company - TKV); Luong Van Thuyet (Mao Khe Coal Company - TKV); Nguyen Trong Tue (Quang Hanh Coal Company - TKV); Nguyen Van Vu (Ha Lam Coal Joint Stock Company - Vinacomin)... They are dynamic Youth Union officials, skilled young workers, and exemplary young Party members who are daily continuing the glorious tradition of miners, contributing to building a sustainable coal industry in the new era.
Notably, during the 2022-2025 period, the entire Youth Union participated in proposing 186 topics and 2,556 technical improvement initiatives, applying science and technology and rationalizing production, with the participation of 2,612 Youth Union members, bringing in benefits worth over 84.6 billion VND. Many initiatives have been effectively applied in practice, contributing to effectively solving weaknesses and difficulties at the unit. In addition, the entire Youth Union effectively maintained 10 youth science and technology clubs with 180 members and 77 initiative support groups, attracting more than 250 Youth Union members. These models have become "incubators" for young people in the coal industry to develop their intellect, nurture their creativity, and realize new ideas to serve production and business.
Comrade Hoang Viet Phuong, Secretary of the Quang Ninh Coal Mining Youth Union, stated: From technical innovation initiatives in the mines to the application of software and artificial intelligence in production and the digitalization of Youth Union activities, the youth of the coal industry are affirming their pioneering role in mastering science and technology. Following the motto "Each Youth Union member is a nucleus of innovation," the Youth Union at all levels has concretized action programs linked to each occupational group and unit, contributing to enhancing the digital capacity of young workers, thereby promoting strong digital transformation throughout the industry.
Spreading the image of the modern-day miner.
The Youth Volunteer Movement has been identified as a key movement, bearing the unique characteristics of the youth of Quang Ninh Coal Mining, with renewed content, solutions, and implementation methods closely linked to professional activities, creating an environment for young people to strive, contribute, and grow. Over the past three years, the Coal Mining Youth Union has successfully achieved its goals by implementing 1,562 youth-managed and participating youth-managed models with 19,185 young people participating. Many construction sites, workshops, and vehicle and machinery teams achieved record productivity and were commended and rewarded by the companies. Notably, the entire Youth Union organized the awarding of plaques to 8 youth projects at the Quang Ninh Provincial Youth Union level; 12 youth projects at the Quang Ninh Coal Mining Youth Union level; and awarded 67 outstanding youth models.
Not only are they pioneers on the production front, but the youth of the coal industry have also made a strong mark in volunteer activities ensuring social welfare and community life. On border roads, islands, remote areas, and other difficult locations, the green volunteer uniforms of the coal industry's youth contribute to spreading humanitarian values and enhancing the image of miners in the new era.
Accordingly, programs such as "Winter Volunteering," "Spring Volunteering," "Gratitude and Remembrance," and "Remembering Our Roots" are regularly maintained and increasingly attract a large number of members. Over the past three years, the entire Youth Union has mobilized over 2 billion VND for volunteer activities. Many meaningful programs have been implemented, such as: environmental protection activities; support for families of Youth Union members severely affected by Typhoon No. 3 (Yagi); participation in the movement to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses; building advanced new rural areas; and donating playgrounds for children... In particular, the "Living Blood Bank" model continues to be effectively maintained with 6,055 Youth Union members participating. From 2022 to the present, nearly 4,000 Youth Union members have donated 3,916 units of blood, contributing to spreading positive humanitarian values in the community.
Alongside professional work and volunteer activities, the Youth Union at all levels has also effectively implemented the campaign "Youth Union members strive to become members of the Communist Party of Vietnam," the "Youth dedicating themselves to the Party" movement, and the "Party development and self-cultivation group" model. During the 2022-2025 term, the Youth Union at all levels recommended 1,502 outstanding members to the Party for consideration and training; of which 1,129 have been admitted to the Party. This represents a high-quality young workforce, full of aspirations to contribute, ready to continue the tradition and shoulder the responsibility of developing the coal industry in the future.
Amidst the layers of coal dust hundreds of meters underground, the image of the young miner still shines brightly, embodying a spirit of hard work, a will to overcome difficulties, and a desire to contribute. Continuing the tradition of "Discipline and Unity" for the past 90 years, today's youth in the coal industry are writing glorious chapters of history with knowledge, creativity, and responsibility, always striving to be a leading force on all fronts, contributing to the comprehensive and sustainable development of the Vietnam Coal and Mineral Industry Group, and building a prosperous, civilized, modern, and happy Quang Ninh province.
