The one-hour lights-off event in response to the 2024 Earth Hour campaign will take place from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM on Saturday, March 23rd, with the message "Saving electricity - make it a habit". The event aims to encourage the community to raise awareness of saving electricity and energy, combating climate change, and protecting the environment for sustainable development.

Employees of Hoa Binh City Power Company are disseminating information and advising customers on solutions for saving electricity.

Earth Hour is an international event launched and organized at the initiative of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) to raise public awareness about climate change and energy conservation worldwide . Over the years, activities in response to the Earth Hour campaign have contributed to raising awareness of electricity conservation among people in the province.

For a long time, saving electricity has been a top priority for Mr. Nguyen Van Dieu's family in Group 10, Tan Thinh Ward (Hoa Binh City). Whenever they purchase appliances such as televisions, refrigerators, induction cookers, and air conditioners, one of their primary criteria is whether the equipment bears the energy-saving label as regulated by the Ministry of Industry and Trade . In addition, to ensure stable operation of electrical appliances, Mr. Dieu regularly cleans and maintains them, saving electricity and extending their lifespan. Notably, his family has developed the habit of disconnecting all electrical devices and plugs whenever they leave the house to avoid energy waste. "Saving electricity will help my family save on monthly electricity bills. Furthermore, each family saving electricity will contribute to ensuring energy security and combating global climate change," Mr. Dieu emphasized.

The Truong Thinh ice and beverage production facility in Huu Nghi ward (Hoa Binh city) has been established and operating for nearly 5 years. On average, the facility produces over 5 tons of ice and 1,000 bottles of water per month, consuming approximately 4,000 kWh of electricity. According to Mr. Nguyen Truong Thinh, the owner, the monthly operating costs include electricity, water, and labor costs. Reducing electricity costs is crucial. Therefore, the facility has opted for automated machinery and equipment with energy-saving technology (inverters). They also regulate production hours to off-peak periods (from 10 PM to 4 AM the following morning). By doing this, the facility reduces its monthly electricity costs by 50%.

It is evident that forming habits of saving electricity has brought practical benefits to people and production facilities and businesses. Adjusting production hours, replacing old equipment and machinery, and adopting good habits in electricity usage are the goals of the Earth Hour campaign. According to Hoa Binh Power Company, in the last two years, after one hour of switching off lights in response to Earth Hour, the amount of electricity saved in the province is estimated at over 3,900 kWh. With the Earth Hour campaign in 2024, the power sector has been stepping up its efforts to promote and guide customers on saving electricity.

Hoa Binh City Power Company currently supplies electricity to over 52,000 customers. Besides efforts to ensure stable and safe electricity supply, promoting awareness about energy conservation is considered one of the company's top priorities. Mr. Dinh Thang Loi, Deputy Director of Hoa Binh City Power Company, stated: "Every year, the company implements many activities to raise awareness and change people's perceptions about energy conservation, as well as to replicate best practices and effective methods of saving electricity. With the 2024 Earth Hour campaign, we call on customers to continue participating in the event by turning off lights and forming habits of energy conservation, because every small action, such as turning off electrical devices when not in use, brings great significance."

Let's all turn off our lights from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM on March 23, 2024, to support the Earth Hour campaign. Above all, simply remembering to turn off appliances when not in use each day will help your family save on electricity costs, contribute to energy conservation, protect the environment, and combat global climate change.
