74 pigs destroyed due to African swine fever

(Baohatinh.vn) - African swine fever appeared in 11 households in Tu My commune (Ha Tinh), causing 74 pigs to be destroyed.

On the afternoon of July 24, 2025, a herd of 20 pigs belonging to Mr. Nguyen Huu Nam's family (Thuan Ly village, Tu My commune) was sick with symptoms of illness, fever, loss of appetite, red skin rash... Immediately after receiving the information, the local authorities notified the Center for Application of Science and Technology and Protection of Plants and Livestock Huong Son to conduct an inspection and take samples for testing of the pigs with symptoms of the above disease.

After the Veterinary Department of Region 3 tested positive for African swine fever, on the afternoon of July 25, 2025, Tu My commune directed specialized agencies to conduct destruction according to regulations and instructed Mr. Nguyen Huu Nam's family to organize disinfection to prevent the disease from spreading.

The total number of sick pigs that must be destroyed in Tu My commune to date is 74.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nam - Vice Chairman of Tu My Commune People's Committee said: As of August 4, 2025, the whole commune had an outbreak of African swine fever in 11 households. The total number of infected pigs that had to be destroyed was 74 with a weight of 5,039 kg.
