Hanoi Electricity Corporation (EVN Hanoi ) said that the city's electricity consumption reached its highest level ever, reaching 5,608.6 MW at 1:42 p.m. on July 30.
In just two days (July 27-29), electricity output increased by a record 40%, from 79.960 million kWh to 108.669 million kWh. The electricity authority said that the demand for cooling increased sharply amid the hot weather. The group of household customers (households) accounted for the largest proportion of consumption.
The outdoor temperature is constantly maintained at 37-39 degrees Celsius, causing devices such as air conditioners, refrigerators, and electric fans to operate more and longer to maintain efficiency. This leads to increased electricity consumption even though the usage time remains unchanged.

In this situation, the electricity authority recommends that people proactively monitor their family's daily electricity consumption through the unit's applications or website. Accordingly, people can check meter readings, compare consumption between periods and especially set warning thresholds to receive timely information when electricity output exceeds the allowable threshold.
"This is an effective solution for people to adjust their electricity usage behavior from the beginning, instead of waiting until the end of the month to be "shocked" by the electricity bill," EVN Hanoi stated.
The electricity authority also recommends that people use electricity sparingly and efficiently, turn off unnecessary electrical appliances and limit the use of high-power appliances during peak hours. At the same time, pay attention to the reasonable use of air conditioning (set at 26 degrees Celsius or higher, use in combination with fans)...
