Bien Hoa - Vung Tau Expressway was started in June 2023, nearly 54 km long, with a total investment of more than 17,800 billion VND, passing through Dong Nai and Ho Chi Minh City. The project is divided into three component projects. Of which, the 19.8 km long section through Ho Chi Minh City (formerly belonging to the old Ba Ria - Vung Tau province) is component project 3, with a total investment of more than 4,963 billion VND, which was technically opened to traffic on April 19.
The route starts at Phu My ward (bordering Dong Nai province) connecting with the end point of component project 2, extending in the Southeast direction and ending at the intersection with National Highway 56.
The investor said that, up to now, the main road of the project has been basically completed, meeting the schedule according to the design documents. Traffic safety systems such as signs, reflective equipment, median strips... have been fully installed.
Currently, vehicles are not allowed to circulate due to some factors related to traffic safety and the connection items and auxiliary infrastructure are still in the process of completion. However, according to records, many vehicles are still moving on this section of the highway.
Phase 1 is invested in a phased scale, including 4 lanes meeting expressway standards, a roadbed cross-section of 24.75 m wide, and a design speed of 100 km/h.
Along the entire route, 11 bridges, 1 underpass and 2 intersections will be built, ensuring flexible connection with existing roads in the area, including 4 unfinished overpasses.
The expressway intersection in Toc Tien commune is being completed and has been paved with asphalt.
At the intersection with National Highway 56 and Provincial Road 994, the main items have been largely completed.
At the construction site, dozens of workers are working to ensure the progress of handing over the entire route, which is expected to officially operate in September 2025.
Many sections of the Bien Hoa – Vung Tau expressway run through lush green fields, creating beautiful scenery when viewed from above. Once completed and put into operation, the entire expressway will help shorten the travel distance from the center of Ho Chi Minh City to Vung Tau and vice versa to only 70 minutes, half the time of traveling on Highway 51, which is often congested as it is now.
While the section through Ho Chi Minh City is basically completed, the remaining two component projects through Dong Nai province are still behind schedule. Component project 1 is invested by the Dong Nai Province Construction Investment Project Management Board, while Component project 2 is managed by Project Management Board 85 ( Ministry of Transport ). Many locations have not yet built the roadbed, and the main items have not yet been implemented, making the entire route unable to be exploited synchronously.
