In Con Cuong commune, heavy rains and floods caused deep inundation of three schools, including Chi Khe Kindergarten, Tra Lan Kindergarten 2 and Tra Lan Primary School 2. In addition, 61 teachers’ families were severely affected, many had their properties and houses swept away, and were in extremely difficult circumstances.

The Director of the Nghe An Department of Education and Training acknowledged the spirit of effort to overcome difficulties of the staff and teachers of Chi Khe Kindergarten - the most severely affected school. Although the school campus was deeply flooded and classrooms were covered with mud more than 1 meter thick, the teachers still worked closely with parents and authorities to clean up and restore the school to operation soon.

Leaders of Nghe An Department of Education and Training presented 50 million VND to support Chi Khe Kindergarten and 11 gifts (each worth 5 million VND) to teachers in especially difficult circumstances due to natural disasters.

According to the plan, in the coming days, leaders of the Nghe An Department of Education and Training will continue to survey many mountainous communes that suffered heavy damage to assess the situation and find solutions to restore school facilities before the new school year.

Nghe An Education Department has launched a fundraising campaign to support disaster relief efforts. To date, the total amount raised has reached nearly 1.5 billion VND.

In addition to financial support, many schools in the province have established working groups and sent teachers to directly support damaged schools. The main activities include environmental sanitation, cleaning up classrooms, and sharing difficulties with teachers and people after natural disasters.

“The department is currently compiling the damage and will continue to accompany schools in the post-flood recovery process. The department will also assign delegations to inspect and encourage severely affected areas,” said Mr. Thai Van Thanh.
