Accordingly, the national power system's peak capacity (Pmax) reached 52,487 MW at 4:10 PM, equivalent to 95.5% of the 2025 record. Of this, the peak capacity of the North reached 24,893 MW. The peak capacity of the South reached 23,261 MW, setting a new record for 2026, equivalent to 104.6% of the 2025 record.
National electricity production reached 1.103 billion kWh, setting a new record for 2026, equivalent to 99.2% of the 2025 record. Of this, the North accounted for 510 million kWh, representing 46.2% of the national electricity system's total output. The Central and Southern regions also set new records for 2026, reaching 93.1% and 106.9% respectively of their 2025 records.
Regarding the structure of daily power generation, it is noteworthy that coal-fired thermal power continues to be the most utilized, accounting for approximately 53.4% of the total system output; followed by hydropower at 286.7 million kWh (26%); gas turbines at 90.2 million kWh (8.2%); electricity from renewable energy sources at approximately 11% (including biomass electricity at 4.7 million kWh (0.4%); wind power at 20.2 million kWh (1.8%); solar power at 53.4 million kWh (4.8%); rooftop solar power at an estimated 43.9 million kWh (4%); other sources at 15.3 million kWh, corresponding to 1.4%, and there is no need to utilize oil-fired power plants, which currently have the highest production costs.
NSMO affirms that the national power system is operating safely and stably, with power sources optimally mobilized to ensure continuous electricity supply and meet the increased load demand amidst widespread heatwaves across the country. Voltage across the power system and load levels of equipment are within permissible operating limits.
According to forecasts, from May 25th to May 30th, there is a high probability of a severe heatwave in Hanoi , the Northern Delta, and North Central Vietnam, with temperatures exceeding 37°C. In accordance with Directive No. 10/CT-TTg dated March 30, 2026, of the Prime Minister on strengthening electricity saving measures and developing rooftop solar power, and to ensure the safe operation of the power system and optimize costs for electricity users, NSMO recommends that people use energy efficiently and effectively during the peak dry season of 2026, especially during the upcoming hot days.
