Tiger Woods is about to have a rematch.

The 2023 US Hero World Challenge, from November 30th to December 3rd, will mark the return of the former world number one golfer after eight months away from the sport recovering from injury.

Woods last played in April. At that time, the former world number one American was competing in the Masters major, but withdrew from the third round due to a recurrence of plantar fasciitis in his right foot. A few days later, he underwent surgery and left the timing of his return uncertain.

On November 18th, Woods unexpectedly announced he would be competing in the Hero World Challenge, a PGA Tour event he hosts at the par-72 Albany course in the Bahamas, as well as raising funds for his own charity.

Last year, Woods also committed to playing but withdrew due to unexpected pain in his right foot just before the opening day. It was then that he discovered he had plantar fasciitis, an inflammation and damage to the band of muscles running along the sole of the foot – the part connecting the heel bone to the toes. This condition causes heel pain, leading to difficulty walking and even unsteadiness. If left untreated, it can become chronic pain, significantly impacting daily life.

Over the past 26 years, "Tiger" has won 15 majors and currently holds the record of 82 PGA Tour titles, tied with legend Sam Snead. However, during this impressive period, the American golf superstar underwent at least 10 surgeries due to professional injuries, most notably to his left knee and the rest to his back.
