First victim's body found in Phong Chau bridge collapse.

(Dan Tri Newspaper) - After many days of searching, on the afternoon of September 14th, authorities found the first victim's body in the Phong Chau bridge collapse ( Phu Tho province ).

On the morning of September 15th, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Tuan, Chairman of the People's Committee of Thach Dong commune (Thanh Thuy district, Phu Tho province), confirmed that on the afternoon of September 14th, functional forces discovered the body of Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong (48 years old, residing in Thach Dong commune) in the Red River, in the section passing through Vinh Lai commune (Lam Thao district, Phu Tho province). Ms. Huong was a victim in the Phong Chau bridge collapse (Phu Tho) that occurred on the morning of September 9th. After completing the legal procedures, the family cremated Ms. Huong's body and deposited the ashes at the crematorium. Ms. Huong's relatives are hoping to find the body of Mr. Luong Xuan Thanh (56 years old, Ms. Huong's husband) so they can hold a burial for both of them. "The family's wish is to find Mr. Thanh's body so they can hold a burial for both of them. Only when there is no hope of finding Mr. Thanh's body will the family hold a burial for Ms. Huong," Mr. Tuan said. According to information from the family, on the morning of September 9th, Mr. Luong Xuan Thanh and his wife, Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong, were returning home to Thach Dong commune (Thanh Thuy district) after a medical check-up in Lam Thao district. As they reached Phong Chau bridge, the bridge suddenly collapsed, causing both of them to fall into the Red River and disappear.

Earlier, Colonel Nguyen Dinh Cuong, Commander of the Phu Tho Provincial Military Command, stated that the Phu Tho Provincial Police had deployed divers to the Red River to verify and search for victims and vehicles involved in the Phong Chau bridge collapse. The Colonel speculated that bodies might be trapped in the vehicles that fell into the Red River. Authorities have also mobilized river ferries with cranes and construction vehicles with cranes capable of salvaging large vehicles submerged in the river. According to Colonel Cuong, once the river flow and depth are within acceptable limits, the military will install a pontoon bridge to facilitate public transportation. As previously reported, at approximately 10:00 AM on September 9th, the Phong Chau bridge in Phu Tho province unexpectedly collapsed, causing two bridge abutments to fall into the Red River. According to a report from the People's Committee of Phu Tho province, the damage from the bridge collapse includes 1 truck, 2 tractor-trailers, 6 motorcycles, 1 electric scooter, and 8 people are missing.
