In today's latest world news on May 22nd, notable developments focus on Russia's transfer of nuclear weapons to Belarus, the US deploying more troops to Poland, President Donald Trump considering missing his son's wedding because of Iran, Israel expelling aid ships from Gaza, and the assassination of a mayor in Peru.
Russia transfers nuclear weapons to Belarus.
The Russian Defense Ministry announced that its military had transferred nuclear weapons to a field storage facility in Belarus as part of a three-day nuclear exercise that began on May 19.
According to Moscow, the Belarusian missile brigade is training to receive special ammunition for the Iskander-M missile system, which can carry conventional or nuclear warheads with a range of up to 500 km.
The exercises took place against the backdrop of Russia's continued confrontation with the West over the Ukraine conflict. The Kremlin also criticized Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kestutis Budrys's remarks about the possibility of NATO entering Russia's Kaliningrad region.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov warned that Moscow would retaliate against any attempts by NATO to increase its nuclear conflict capabilities in Europe.

US President Donald Trump said he might not attend his son Donald Trump Jr.'s wedding because he is focused on the situation in Iran. "This is not a good time for me. I have things to deal with regarding Iran and other things," Trump told reporters on May 21.
However, the American leader said he would try to arrange to attend the private wedding taking place this weekend in the Bahamas. The wedding comes as Washington continues to push forward with negotiations related to the conflict with Iran, amid increasing domestic economic pressure due to rising fuel prices and the cost of living.
The US is sending an additional 5,000 troops to Poland.
President Donald Trump announced that Washington will send an additional 5,000 troops to Poland following the victory of President-elect Karol Nawrocki. Trump stated that this decision reflects the close relationship between the U.S. and Poland, as well as a commitment to increasing the military presence in Eastern Europe.
The announcement comes after the Pentagon canceled plans last week to rotate 4,000 US troops to Poland. Approximately 10,000 US troops are currently stationed in the Eastern European country. Analysts believe Poland continues to be considered by Washington as one of its most important military allies in Europe amid escalating tensions with Russia.

Israel expels entire aid fleet to Gaza.
The Israeli Foreign Ministry said it expelled all members of the Global Sumud Flotilla aid fleet after the Israeli navy intercepted the vessels at sea.
According to international media, approximately 430 activists from 40 countries joined the convoy to protest the blockade of the Gaza Strip and deliver humanitarian aid to the area. The incident prompted concerns from countries such as the United States, France, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Ireland regarding the detention conditions of those arrested.
Meanwhile, Israel insists it will not allow any actions that break the maritime blockade of Gaza.
