Chu Dau pottery in Thai Tan commune ( Hai Phong ) is a high-class pottery line dating back to the 13th - 14th century, which flourished in the 15th - 16th century. But in the 17th century, the ancient pottery line was lost. After a long journey of excavation, searching, and research, Chu Dau pottery gradually revived. Compared to other ceramic lines, Chu Dau ceramic stands out for its quality: "Thin as paper, clear as jade, white as ivory, ringing like a bell". The ceramic is made from white clay, especially the ceramic glaze is made from the ash of the rice husk of yellow sticky rice, creating its own beauty. The method of making Chu Dau ceramics has reached a very high level. In particular, the motifs and patterns on the ceramics are the highlights from the elaborate and meticulous carvings and reliefs. The motifs painted on ceramics vividly reflect the life of the Northern Delta region with delicate yet liberal and free strokes. Chu Dau ceramic artisans may be amateur painters but they still express the soul of ancient ceramics through each stroke. This is the respect for traditional values of the next generation, always concerned with preserving and developing the profession. To enhance its value, Chu Dau pottery is also painted with gold. Foreign tourists enjoy the experience of making Chu Dau pottery. Recently, 5 Chu Dau ceramic products were recognized as national 5-star OCOP products. This is a plus point for Chu Dau ceramic to affirm its brand and continue to promote its long-lasting cultural and historical values.THANH CHUNG - NGUYEN MO
