Human kindness shines through the rain and floods.

The vehicles of hope continued to roll amidst the raging floods, as difficulties piled upon difficulties. Regardless of rain or shine, each vehicle carried joy and sharing, knocking on every door.

Charity Buses

Mr. Vu Ngoc Hai's dump truck from Thang Thuan village has been operating at full capacity lately, delivering special shipments such as rice, noodles, steamed buns, porridge, milk, and drinking water to supply the people in the Ca Dong area (Ham Thang commune).

Although the water level in the eastern part of Lam Dong province has started to recede, some areas are still deeply flooded; among them, the residential areas along both sides of National Highway 1A and Thang Thuan neighborhood are the most severely affected.

Local authorities, relevant agencies, and charitable organizations in the province are making efforts to provide emergency assistance and supply essential goods to the people.

The buses never stop.

In response to this situation, the "Giving is Forever" volunteer group, in coordination with local authorities, continuously took turns receiving, unloading, and transporting hundreds of meals, drinks, and food supplies to the local people using trucks and dump trucks.

Each serving of hot rice or porridge delivered to the villagers represents an act of kindness. Accompanying the group are more than 10 young people from the area who have volunteered their vehicles and participated in distributing meals and supplies.

Mr. Vu Ngoc Hai, from Ham Thang ward, owns two dump trucks – the family's livelihood – which have been used as emergency relief vehicles for people in the flooded areas.

Sometimes he drives vehicles, sometimes he transports people, regularly distributing meals to the villagers three times a day. Not only during this flood, but also during the heavy rains and floods in October, he was there, selflessly helping everyone.

Mr. Ngoc Hai is happy to be able to help people in flood-affected areas.

Hai shared: "With the flooding like this, no vehicle can get through, so I decided to roll up my sleeves and help the people."

Mr. Hai discussed the route for delivering meals to the villagers.

That's what I said, but when we passed by Mr. Hai's house on the food delivery vehicle, I realized that his and his wife's house was also deeply flooded. "Our house is still flooded, but compared to many others, we're still safe. My wife and children are at home cleaning up. I'm out helping people; I'll help in any way I can," Mr. Hai said.

During the delivery of meals to the villagers, despite unfavorable weather conditions, when stopping his vehicle to knock on each door, Hai's face always shone with joy.

Roads leading to residential areas are largely flooded, with strong currents, and in many places the water level exceeds 1.5 meters. Since December 4th, floodwaters have surged, causing deep flooding in low-lying areas. Many houses in groups 8, 9, 10 and Thang Thuan neighborhood have been cut off. Surrounded by floodwaters, kitchens are deeply submerged, making cooking almost impossible, and many families are facing shortages.

Sharing during floods

Ms. Ha Thi Thu Thuy, a member of the "Giving is Forever" volunteer group, said: "Over the past two days, seeing people isolated, the group has called on philanthropists to come together to supply food and support people in the flooded areas. The meals sometimes consist of sticky rice and bread, sometimes rice and stir-fried noodles, with the hope of ensuring nutrition and health for the people to overcome difficulties."

These vehicles carry the love and compassion of the village.

"When the water rose, Mr. Hai volunteered to help without a word of question, enthusiastically and cheerfully," Ms. Thuy said.

Faced with the difficulties of the local people, the People's Committee of Ham Thang ward mobilized many political and social organizations, associations, and charitable groups to organize activities aimed at supporting the flood-affected areas, especially providing food, drinking water, and thousands of meals every day.

Small joys

Over the past few days, more than 10,000 meals and drinks have been supplied to people in the displaced areas. In particular, on December 5th, organizations and philanthropists continued to provide support, ensuring the supply of food and drinks three times a day, with over 7,500 meals per delivery.

The People's Committee of Ham Thang ward organized the relocation of more than 1,550 households with 2,500 people in the following neighborhoods: Kim Binh, Kim Ngoc, Phu Thanh, Phu Thinh, Thang Hiep, and Phu Hoa, from areas at risk of deep flooding and strong currents.

Authorities are continuing to assist people in reaching safe locations. There, the government has provided sufficient essential supplies to help people temporarily settle in while waiting for the floodwaters to recede.

According to the People's Committee of Ham Thang ward, due to the impact of prolonged heavy rain in the upstream communes, combined with the overflowing of Song Quao reservoir, the water level in Ham Thang ward is rising, causing flooding in the Song Lap area, group 1, Kim Binh neighborhood.

"Field kitchen"

In Ham Thuan Bac commune, the floodwaters are receding this afternoon, but everything is still in disarray, mud covers yards, furniture is damaged, and people are busy cleaning up their homes.

To support the people, the volunteer group led by Mr. Nguyen Hoang Nghi (Ham Thuan commune) mobilized benefactors and philanthropists to organize a kitchen, cook meals, and distribute them free of charge to the people.

Mr. Nguyen Hoang Nghi said: “From 3 a.m., everyone was busy preparing. Some washed vegetables, others cooked, and even the children helped pack the meals. The carefully packaged meals were delivered to each area, carrying with them a spirit of sharing and warmth. In the past two days, more than 3,200 meals have been delivered to people in Ham Thuan, Ham Thuan Bac, and Hong Son communes…”

At Kim Ngoc Church in Ham Thang ward, a makeshift kitchen was set up on the morning of December 6th. This kitchen quickly became operational, providing hundreds of hot meals to people in the affected area.

Many women from the area joined the group. Some picked vegetables, others cooked rice, and still others washed vegetables and fruits. The atmosphere was bustling but lively, filled with warm laughter.

Similarly, the kitchen was set up by the Buddhist volunteer group Dieu Hanh Le (formerly Binh Phuoc province) out of compassion. With nearly 1.2 tons of rice, almost 2.8 tons of vegetables, fruits, meat, and 4,000 eggs, this "field kitchen" is expected to cook approximately 5,000 meals for the people of Ham Thang and surrounding areas.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Trang, a member of the volunteer group, said: "Philanthropists and benefactors from the former Binh Phuoc province (now Dong Nai province) have joined hands. Everyone contributed whatever they could, from rice, vegetables, meat... to organize cooking here to support the people, hoping to share some of the difficulties faced by the people here."

Amidst the complexities of reconstruction, these makeshift kitchens have given strength to flood victims, helping them overcome difficulties and quickly stabilize their lives.

According to the People's Committee of Ham Thang ward, 18 out of 19 neighborhoods are currently flooded. Nearly 7,000 out of 12,797 houses are flooded (below 0.5m); 3 temporary houses and 3 houses are damaged. The floods also inundated approximately 521 hectares of agricultural land. The initial estimated damage is around 100 billion VND.
