These days, from cities to rural areas, flower-lined roads are in full bloom, awakening spring in every alley, street, at the entrance to villages and hamlets, and in the hearts of every person...

Walking along the embankment section through Xuan Huy commune, Lam Thao district, everyone is impressed by the road overflowing with the vibrant purple of evening primroses, the red of cockscomb flowers, and many other flowers blooming in profusion, alongside a sign that reads "Women's Flower Road". With the motto "Every section of road is a flower road," over the years, the Women's Union of Xuan Huy commune has mobilized its branches to plant flowers along the roadside, creating a peaceful and vibrant rural landscape, becoming a highlight in the movement to build model new rural residential areas.

Leading us on a tour of the flower-lined roads planted and cared for by women, Ms. Nguyen Thi Duyen – President of the Women's Union of the commune – shared: “Along with the process of building new rural areas, the Women's Union has actively implemented models and sections of flower-lined roads in residential areas to create a green, clean, and beautiful rural environment. The entire commune has 6 flower-lined roads managed by women, and the branches are currently actively weeding and caring for them to ensure vibrant and lush green roads to welcome the Lunar New Year.”

With a focus on grassroots activities, in 2024, the Women's Union at all levels in Lam Thao district actively innovated the content and methods of its activities, effectively implementing emulation movements, campaigns, and key tasks of the Union. 100% of the Women's Unions in communes and towns implemented models such as "Women's Flower Road," "Flower Road for Effective Mass Mobilization," and "Flower Road for Safe Traffic"... During the year, the Union planted 20 new "Women's Flower Roads" in communes and towns with a total value of over 800 million VND. In addition to the flower roads planted and cared for by the Union at all levels, members also proactively and actively planted flowers along roads and alleys in their own neighborhoods.

The "Flower Road" model has spread widely, with women's association members at all levels throughout the province, from the plains to the mountainous areas, actively responding and participating. Leveraging the role of female cadres and members in building and protecting the environment and urban landscape, the Provincial Women's Union has actively directed the implementation of the "Flower Road" model in recent years, proactively proposing and linking the campaign's contents with the National Target Program for New Rural Development, and replicating exemplary models. To date, the entire province has over 5,000 "Flower Roads," "Railway-Flower Roads," and "Rice Fields with Flower Embankments" managed by the Women's Union.

Throughout the province, there are more than 5,000 flower-lined roads planted and cared for by women's associations at all levels.

Like other localities, in implementing the criteria for building new rural areas, the Women's Union of Yen Lap district launched the emulation movement "Yen Lap women join forces to build new rural areas". Women's unions at all levels in the district have intensified propaganda, proactively linked the criteria for building new rural areas with emulation targets and tasks of the Union, and guided grassroots units to build effective models of mass mobilization associated with building new rural areas.

Identifying environmental protection as one of the most challenging criteria in the process of building new rural areas, requiring changes in people's awareness as well as organizational funding, the Women's Union at all levels has mobilized members to participate in maintaining environmental hygiene, sustaining and improving the quality of activities of the "Women's Union Branch with 5 No's and 3 Cleanliness Standards for Building New Rural Areas" model in 59 branches, continuing to maintain and care for nearly 200 flower-lined roads, the "Clean House, Beautiful Garden, Civilized Alley" model, and the "Household Trash Can" model.

Ms. Dinh Thi Bich Thuy, a member of the Women's Association in Mit area, Yen Lap town, shared: "The movement to plant flowers along the roads has truly spread to every residential area and household. The formation of these flower-lined roads has changed our people's awareness of environmental hygiene, and the consciousness of beautifying the village landscape has been significantly raised. People no longer litter indiscriminately; instead, they proactively clean up and weed along the flower-lined roads near their homes to make the roads even more vibrant and beautiful."

The flower-lined streets contribute to beautifying the roads and alleys in Yen Lap town.

Implementing the movement to build flower-lined and model roads, in 2024, the Women's Union of the district launched a campaign for each commune to register to build at least one model road, mobilizing members and the people to actively plant trees and flowers along village roads and alleys. In particular, to continue implementing the flower-lined road project, the branches conducted surveys of rural roads, especially sections overgrown with weeds and frequently littered, causing environmental pollution and detracting from the aesthetics, in order to plant flowers as replacements.

The roads and alleys are now adorned with colorful flowers, beautifying the spring season, creating a green, clean, and beautiful landscape for residential areas in particular and the locality in general, while also contributing to raising people's awareness of environmental protection and making a positive contribution to building new rural areas.
