Following Typhoon No. 10, the power grid infrastructure in Ha Tinh was severely damaged.

Efforts to stay on schedule

Following typhoons No. 5 and No. 10, the power grid in Ha Tinh province suffered severe damage. Nearly 10,000 power poles were knocked down, tilted, or damaged throughout the province; tens of thousands of kilometers of medium and low voltage power lines were broken; substations, equipment, and accessories were displaced, flooded, and suffered insulation degradation. It is estimated that the damage caused by the two typhoons to the province's power grid amounted to nearly 150 billion VND. This figure not only reflects the devastating impact of the natural disaster but also places immense pressure on the power sector to repair the damage and restore the power grid after the storms.

Mr. Pham Viet Thang, Deputy Director of Ha Tinh Power Company, said: “Following the directives of the Northern Power Corporation, Ha Tinh Power Company has established 13 working groups to directly monitor the scene, direct and organize simultaneous construction teams to urgently khắc phục the incident. At the same time, the Northern Power Corporation and the Central Power Corporation have reinforced their emergency response teams, with the number reaching up to 1,000 people at its peak, to construct temporary poles and restore power supply to the people. Alongside the immediate remediation work, the company is also proactively developing plans and preparing detailed cost estimates to implement the reinforcement of the power grid, ensuring the early restoration of a safe and sustainable power system.”

Post-storm recovery efforts are facing many difficulties due to the complex terrain, with many areas experiencing deep flooding and subsidence, requiring a long time to restore.

However, Ha Tinh province has a complex terrain, and after the storm, the weather has been characterized by continuous, prolonged rain, muddy ground, and localized flooding, making access to the site difficult. Many areas remained deeply flooded for extended periods (Nghi Xuan commune, Bac Hong Linh ward); some construction sites lacked access, requiring temporary roads and manual transportation of individual bundles of wires, accessories, and pole components to reach the site; the widespread damage has overwhelmed the power sector's workload… The storm caused damage in many central provinces, resulting in high demand for power poles, materials, and manpower, while supply is scarce, significantly impacting the progress of restoring the power grid throughout the region.

In response to this situation, the Ha Tinh Power Company urgently directed contractors to stay on site, taking advantage of each day's progress to complete each item; organizing working groups to inspect the site and resolve difficulties and obstacles at each project. At locations with a large volume of work, the company deployed additional personnel to support contractors, providing optimal construction solutions to ensure rapid restoration and maintain the highest level of safety discipline.

Mr. To Thai Hoa, Chairman of the People's Committee of Ha Huy Tap Ward, said: “After typhoons No. 5 and No. 10, the power grid system was severely affected. Thanks to the decisive and urgent intervention of the Ha Tinh Power Company, electricity was restored promptly, helping people stabilize their lives and not disrupting local activities and tasks. In particular, along with addressing the damage, the power sector has supported the upgrading and improvement of the power grid infrastructure, ensuring stable and safe power supply, and helping the locality achieve its urban development goals.”

A "sprint" to reach the finish line on time.

Dong Tien commune is one of the areas most severely affected by damage to the power grid system. For the past few months, Ha Tinh Power Company has prioritized manpower and materials to expedite repair work and restore the power grid infrastructure to safety and stability.

Mr. Nguyen Van Hoan – High-Voltage Grid Enterprise (Ha Tinh Power Company) said: “Currently, we are in the process of transferring boxes and moving wires from temporary poles to new poles. Although the work is demanding in terms of deadlines, everyone understands their responsibility and is working diligently every day, without taking any days off, to complete the workload before December 31st. Along with completing the restoration of the power grid, we are also implementing the “5S” system for tidying up power lines, assisting people in neatly bundling electrical wires in their homes, and promoting safe electricity usage…”

The construction progress is being closely monitored by the teams every day, with the determination to complete the restoration of the power grid before December 31st.

According to the Ha Tinh Power Company, the power grid restoration project is 90% complete. Currently, the remaining work mainly focuses on difficult-to-access locations, requiring structural completion, site preparation, and safety assurance during implementation. Additionally, the company is replacing temporary poles, removing fallen or broken power poles, restoring the site, and ensuring aesthetics and traffic safety in the affected areas.

“The company is focusing its efforts and making the most of its time to complete the remaining tasks, determined to finish restoring the power grid before December 31, 2025, as committed to the province, and to bring the power grid system into stable and synchronized operation in accordance with technical requirements,” affirmed Mr. Pham Viet Thang, Deputy Director of the company.

Currently, 90% of the power grid restoration work has been completed.

Over the past period, the power sector has been urgently working to repair the power grid system after the storms. Particularly noteworthy is the timely intervention of the Northern Power Corporation and the coordination of power corporations nationwide, which mobilized resources to support Ha Tinh in overcoming the damage. However, due to the widespread nature of the storms and floods across many provinces and at various times, the power sector faced difficulties in mobilizing materials, power poles, and personnel, affecting the construction progress.

With the end of the year approaching and electricity demand increasing, especially during the upcoming Christmas and New Year holidays, the electricity sector is requested to focus its efforts on completing the restoration of the power grid according to the set timeline. At the same time, local authorities are requested to coordinate with the electricity sector to clear the power line corridors to ensure safe and stable electricity supply for the people.
