General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping paid a state visit to Vietnam from April 14-15, at the invitation of General Secretary To Lam andPresident Luong Cuong.

The State visit to Vietnam is also the first foreign trip of General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping in 2025. Within the framework of General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping's visit to Vietnam, the two sides are expected to have many important activities and sign many cooperation documents in a range of fields.
Over the past time, the overall Vietnam-China relationship has maintained a positive development trend and achieved many important results. From the beginning of 2025 to now, in the context of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-China diplomatic relations (January 18, 1950 - January 18, 2025), the two sides have maintained close exchanges and contacts at high and all levels. General Secretary To Lam had a phone call with General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping (January 15), declaring the launch of the Vietnam-China Year of Humanitarian Exchange 2025.
Key Vietnamese leaders and their Chinese counterparts exchanged congratulatory letters/telegrams on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations (January 18). General Secretary To Lam attended the program "Meeting Vietnamese and Chinese students of all periods" (March 20).
In terms of trade, in 2024, Vietnam will maintain its position as the largest trading partner in ASEAN and China's fourth largest trading partner by country (after the US, Japan, and South Korea). Vietnam-China bilateral trade turnover for the whole year of 2024 will reach 205.2 billion USD (up 19.3%). In the first 3 months of 2025, Vietnam-China bilateral trade turnover will reach 51.25 billion USD (up 17.46% over the same period).
In terms of investment, in 2024, China ranked first in the number of newly licensed projects with 955 projects, ranked 3rd out of 110 investment partners in Vietnam in terms of capital with 4.73 billion USD (an increase of more than 3.05%). Accumulated to December 31, 2024, China continued to rank 6th out of 148 countries and territories investing in FDI in Vietnam with 5,111 valid projects, total registered capital reaching 30.83 billion USD, accounting for more than 6.2% of total registered foreign direct investment in Vietnam. Chinese investors have invested in 19/21 economic sectors with FDI investment and in 55/63 provinces and cities of Vietnam. In March 2025, China ranked 2nd in terms of total registered capital, reaching 1.23 billion USD, accounting for 28.5%, second only to Singapore.
