According to Al Jazeera reporters, on May 22, Pakistan's Chief of Staff Asim Munir was en route to Tehran for high-level talks.

According to many analysts and military strategists, Asim Munir's trip to Iran is a positive sign, because on his previous visit, he met not only with political leaders but also with military leaders.

He was able to negotiate with Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and defense forces, emphasizing to them the strategic importance of a peace agreement.

On the same day, Reuters reported that a Qatari negotiating delegation had arrived in Tehran to promote an agreement to end the conflict between the US and Iran.

Sources familiar with the matter said the Qatari delegation's trip was undertaken in coordination with the US, with the aim of helping to resolve outstanding issues between the US and Iran.

Previously, Qatar also played a mediating role in resolving conflicts in Gaza and many other international hotspots. However, in the Iranian conflict, Doha has so far remained relatively quiet in its role as a mediator.

Previously, Qatar had also suffered missile and drone attacks from Iran during the intense fighting. Currently, information about the activities of the Qatari delegation in Tehran remains scarce.

According to Bloomberg , Qatar, along with the UAE and Saudi Arabia, urged Trump not to resume hostilities in Iran, in order to create room for negotiations. It was this appeal from the three countries that led Trump to halt his planned attack on Iran on May 19th.

Gulf states fear that a renewed conflict would cause economic chaos in the region and severely disrupt energy exports.

According to sources, in private phone calls with Trump, the leaders of Qatar, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia all stated that military action would not help Washington achieve its long-term goals with Iran. The White House has not yet commented on this information.

The UAE's stance is now seen as having undergone a notable shift, as it joins Qatar and Saudi Arabia in calling on the US not to resume attacks on Iran. Previously, the UAE had been heavily impacted by Iranian attacks and held a much tougher position than its neighbors on the Iran issue.

According to sources, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar still hold differing views on the type of deal the US should pursue with Iran. However, their joint approach to persuading Trump suggests they share concerns about the risk of renewed hostilities.

During the preceding period of conflict, Iran and Tehran-backed armed groups launched thousands of drones and missiles across the Gulf, causing billions of dollars in damage to the energy infrastructure and ports of Gulf nations.

Bloomberg reported that the UAE secretly carried out attacks against Iran, and Saudi Arabia also took similar action, in order to warn Iran against attacks targeting these two countries.

On May 21, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that negotiations with Iran had made “a little progress.” “I don’t want to be too optimistic. Let’s see what happens in the next few days. If we reach a good deal, that would be great. But if we don’t reach a good deal, the President has made it clear he has other options,” Rubio said.

At the same time, Arab media reported that Washington and Tehran might soon announce a draft peace agreement brokered by Pakistan.

According to Saudi Arabia-based Al Arabiya , sources say the draft includes nine points covering ceasefire arrangements, freedom of navigation, dispute resolution mechanisms, negotiation procedures, and steps to lift sanctions. Neither Washington nor Tehran has commented on this information.
