Today (March 7), South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol left the detention center after the court agreed to the defense team's request to overturn the arrest warrant, according to Yonhap.

Last month, lawyers for South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol filed a petition with the Seoul Central District Court to overturn the arrest warrant against the impeached president. The reason given was that the arrest was illegal because the prosecution had waited too long to indict him.
Following the court ruling, President Yoon Suk Yeol was released immediately and instructed to continue attending the trial from outside, according to AFP.
Previously, on February 25, Yoon Suk Yeol attended the final impeachment hearing to determine his responsibility in the declaration of martial law in December 2024.
He has been impeached by the National Assembly , and if the South Korean Constitutional Court finds him guilty, he will be removed from office. Otherwise, he will be reinstated.
In court, Yoon apologized to the people but denied the rebellion charges, according to Yonhap. "The opposition party claims that I declared martial law to establish a dictatorship and prolong my rule. This is a fabricated conspiracy to accuse me of rebellion," Yoon continued.
He argued that at the time, South Korea was facing an "existential crisis" and there was an urgent need to recognize the situation and take action to overcome it.
On December 3, 2024, President Yoon declared martial law, but withdrew it a few hours later under pressure from parliament.
A few weeks later, Congress passed a resolution impeaching the leader on charges of rebellion.
Mr. Yoon also faced another trial and became the first sitting South Korean president to be arrested on criminal charges on January 15.
