According to the Lebanese President's office, Aoun stressed "the necessity of achieving a ceasefire," considering it "an essential starting point for any further steps" and "a necessary path to create the right conditions for resolving outstanding issues."
For his part, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio reaffirmed "the US administration's commitment to continuing efforts to maintain the results from previous meetings in Washington."

Earlier, Lebanese and Israeli military delegations held talks in Washington, D.C. However, according to regional sources, the two sides failed to reach an agreement on a new ceasefire.
This development occurred against the backdrop of the near collapse of the previous ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon, brokered by the US. Israel continued to conduct airstrikes deep into southern Lebanon, citing retaliation for Hezbollah's missile and drone strikes in northern Israel.
